Father and son, Greg and Eli Edge enjoying final rounds together with Westbrook Christian Golf

For Eli and Greg Edge, the last three seasons at Westbrook Christian have been special.

Eli is the defending low medalist in Class 3A and took home the Gadsden area boys low medalist title on Monday at the tournament at Twin Bridges. He has consistently been averaging in the low 70s for 18 holes and under par in most events. Greg has been the head coach of the Warriors for the last three years, while also being an administrator at the school.

The duo helped lead Westbrook Christian to a state title last year. And for Eli having his whole family there, but specifically having his dad coaching the team and him, was up there in moments in his life so far.

"That was one of the best moments that I think I've had. It was really good moment to have my family there, it was really special," Eli said.

Greg credits most of what Eli has learned on the golf course to Eli's grandad or Eli teaching it to himself through practice, which could see him on a course at a minimum five days a week. Greg credits assistant coach Rob McHugh as someone who can help coach the boys up, while he does more of an administrative duty, but it also frees him up to watch Eli a little more.

"Being able to coach Eli has been really special to me," Greg said. "Being able to spend time with him, be out there with him and see him through high school has been very enjoyable thing for me."

For Eli having his dad as his coach means the world to him, its allowed for a special bond between them that has gone beyond father and son, something that golf is built on.

"It's really special because he means the world to me," Eli said. "Just him being there for me and supporting me in all that I do. It's awesome to have him there with me."

For the Edge's they know they only have the rest of the season, that will be wrapped up by May 15, with playoffs starting the last week of March on the 29th and 30th, where Westbrook Christian will play sectionals at Twin Bridges.

"Since its coming to the end, you definitely want to soak it in more," Eli said. "Every chance I can get out there with him, I'll be out there because I know it won't last much longer but while we have it we're going to have a good time doing it."
