ESPN’s Jimmy Pitaro Joins Rhone Board of Directors

Athletic wear brand Rhone is adding ESPN chairman Jimmy Pitaro and former Athleta marketing chief Tess Roering to the company’s board of directors.

Pitaro and Roering join a group that includes Rhone co-founders Nate Checketts and Carras Holmstead, as well as Dave Checketts, the long-time sports executive and managing partner of Checketts Partners Investment Fund. Dave Checketts is the father of Nate Checketts.

Pitaro supervises all sports content, products and experiences for ESPN since becoming chairman of the Walt Disney Company subsidiary in 2020. Under his stewardship, ESPN has extended or acquired broadcast rights agreements with the NFL, Major League Baseball, NCAA, UFC, NHL, La Liga, the PGA tour and Wimbledon, along with other sports leagues.

“I have long admired Rhone’s commitment to quality and am honored to have been selected to the board to help drive their continued growth,” Pitaro said in a statement. “They have an impressive operation and I look forward to collaborating with other leaders to impact positive change.”

Roering arrives at Rhone as the company plans a launch of a new women’s collection, set to debut in May. She previously served as the chief commercial officer of CorePower Yoga and was the first head of marketing for Athleta, the Gap Inc.-owned women’s athletic brand.

Founded in 2014 by Nate and Ben Checketts, Rhone built its brand of fitness wear around enhancing mental fitness and community. Rhone has 15 retail locations across the U.S. in addition to its e-commerce and wholesale retail imprint.
