Auburn recently offered 2020 athlete Dawson Ellington a scholarship, giving him 10 total. The Tigers offered last week, then the 5-foot-11, 172 pound sophomore out of Marietta (Ga.) visited the Plains Saturday to see Auburn handle Mississippi State.

It was his third visit to Auburn and Ellington got to know one of the coaches pretty well.

"The best part of the visit was my time with the coaches," said Ellington. "I got a lot of time with coach [Greg] Brown (defensive backs) before the game. He took the time to sit down with me and my family and we had a good talk.

"He talked about me, he asked about my family and it was great. He is a great guy. He has great spirit, he is a family guy and he made a very good first impression."

Before the visit, Ellington and Brown spoke over the phone. That was when the offer took place. It is one offer Ellington did not see coming.

"Coach [Tim] Horton (running backs) is my area recruiter and he told me to give coach Brown a call. When I called coach Brown, it was my first time talking to him and we talked a little about school, the season and things like that, then he offered me.

"It was a surprise. I had camped there and I have heard a little from them, but it was a surprise when he offered. He came out and said Auburn was interested in me, then just said I had the offer. It felt great."

There are still no leaders or favorites for Ellington, but Auburn is definitely on his mind. He has seen enough to get a good feel for the program and the Tigers have his attention.

"I have been to two games now and I was a camp last year, so I have seen a lot there at Auburn," said Ellington. "I really like it over there. I like the coaches a lot and they have great fans.

"There defensive is great and I really like how aggressive they play. Their coaches like to get to know their recruits and I like that.

"All the schools are still the same for me, but Auburn is a great school. I feel blessed to have an offer from them and it is a school I will get back to."
