El Paso high school softball teams ready for area round of UIL playoffs

The area round of the UIL softball playoffs starts Thursday and there are 10 El Paso teams remaining. Last season, Hanks reached the Region I-5A semifinals and El Paso teams are hopeful of going at least that far this season.

Class 6A

  • Montwood and Eastwood are still alive out of District 1-6A. The Rams were the district champs and Eastwood was second. Both teams are strong hitting clubs and are very good on defense.

Class 5A

  • Chapin has history of deep runs in the playoffs in recent years including a Region I-5A final appearance.

  • Del Valle and Ysleta have potential to advance to the next round with good pitching and timely hitting.

  • Canutillo served notice with a sweep of Parkland in bi-district.

Class 4A

  • Riverside has come a long way with second-year coach Jade Rodriguez.

  • San Elizario has made plenty of progress in the past two years.

  • Bowie and Clint earned nice bi-district wins last week and hope to build for the future.
