Case, Diman track teams fare well at GNBVT Invitational: Top performers (Apr. 29-May 4)

NEW BEDFORD — The Case boys and girls track and field team fared well during Saturday's New Bedford Vocational Sunset Invitational at Greater New Bedford Vocational Technical School.

Winning gold medals for Case were Hannah Santos (high jump; 5-2), Liberty Gazaille (discus; 106-9) and Christopher Gaboriault (triple jump; 40-11). Second place finishers include Emma Bouchard (200; 27.9) and Gazaille (shot put; 33-7)

Rounding out other medal winners were Santos (third; triple jump), Ayanna Massie (fourth; long jump and 100 as a freshmen), Ashlyn Byrnes (fifth; mile), Gabby Thorpe (fourth; 200), Deanna Bright (fifth; triple jump), Nick Thorpe (fourth; 200), Owen Dias (fifth; 400 hurdles) and Ben Fortier (10th; javelin).

Diman

The Bengals track and field athletes had great performances at the Greater New Bedford Sunset Invitational on Saturday. The girls 4x100 team of Joleah Rivera, Grace Flattery, Emma Foley and Inez Medeiros placed third overall, setting a new school record of 53.42. Other top placements were Medeiros (second; 400 meter), Grace Flattery (second; high jump), Foley (fourth; triple jump), Katie Miranda (seventh; discus) and Hannah King (11th; 25'9).

For the boys, Cashton Richard placed second overall in the 400 hurdles (59.53). Maxwell DesRoches placed eighth in High Jump (5'8). Other top performers for Diman included: Nicole Mota, Lylah Thibeault, Angela Njoroge, Samantha Santos, Izayah Summers, Jack Librera, and Troy Davis.

Baseball

Durfee 8, Middleboro 5

Aidan Travers pitched six innings for the win for Durfee (9-2), giving up four earned runs, eight hits, three walks while striking out five in their win against Middleboro. Keith Strong came in and collected the save with a clean seventh inning. Jeyden Espinal led the Hilltoppers offense with a pair of hits, including a triple and two runs scored. Matt Almedia and Owen Moniz each contributed two-run singles. Jayden Souza and Travers each had RBI singles.

Softball

Case 19, Fairhaven 0

The defending Division 4 state champion Cardinals overpowered league opponent Fairhaven. Megan Smith and Lila Alvarez led Case (11-1) with three hits and three RBIs. Skye Dupre, Lily Picard and Nicole Rebelo each finished with a pair of hits. Madilyn Botelho, Bre Fontes, Meg Pereira, and Olivia Williams each had a hit. Alvarez pitched four innings for the win, allowing one hit while striking out 10. Cailyn Durand closed the door in relief, striking out two.

Diman 19, Blue Hills 9

The Bengals took care of business against league opponent Blue Hills. Alexah Pedder went 3-for-6 with a double and three RBIs. Kacie Lynch (double, stolen base and two RBIs) and Nya Martinez (three runs scored, stolen base and RBI) each had two hits. Courtney Boies (two stolen bases, 2 RBIs), Ashley Carvalho and Natalie Raposa each contributed a hit

Canton 16, Durfee 11

The Hilltoppers fell short against Canton on the road. Mia Jacob (five RBIs) and Julia Rumsey each had three hits. Skyla Gibson, Michaela Goncalves and Kaitlyn Coutu each had two hits for Durfee (2-9). Kaitlyn Coutu went the distance, striking out two batters. Skyla Fernandes played well at first base in her first start.

Durfee

It was a solid night for the Hilltoppers track and field team the MSTCA Lou Tozzi freshman-sophomore meet at Oliver Ames. Curtis Mowatt came away with two medals — third in long jump (21’1”) and fourth in the 100 (13.47). Thysh Garcia-Martinez placed sixth in the 100 (13.47). Alvin Gaston got his first medal of his career, finishing sixth in the triple jump (39’6.5”). The girls’ 4x100 team of Aaliyah Alexandre, Thysh Garcia-Martinez, Kiarra Fermino and Shayla Harrison took eighth place (54.57).

Boys Volleyballl

New Bedford 3, Durfee 0

The Hilltoppers were swept by league opponent New Bedford. Danny Matuszek had 15 assists for Durfee (7-5). Chris Milfort had eight kill shots and eight digs. Josh Sanon finished with six kill shots.

Diman 4, Bristol-Plymouth 1

Sam Perry hurled another complete game for Diman (7-1; 3-1 in Mayflower), allowing four hits and struck out 12 batters in a win against Bristol-Plymouth at the Swansea YMCA complex. Perry also went 2-for-3 at the plate. Tanyon Reis had a pair of hits while Charlie Vernon, Cameron Falcon and Alex Carvalho (walk) each collected a hit.

Somerset Berkley 7, Dartmouth 1

Landon Richardson went six strong innings for the Raiders in their win over Dartmouth. He allowed no earned runs, two hits, two walks while striking out four. Kyle Sherman went 2-for-3 with two RBIs in his varsity debut. Alex Crook and Brady Carpenter (two RBIs) each finished with two hits for SBR (9-3; 6-2 in SCC).

Westport 5, Wareham 1

Luke Finglas pitched a complete game for the Wildcats, allowing four hits while striking out 11 in their win over Wareham. Bryton Graham led Westport (4-3) offensively with a pair of hits and two stolen bases two bases. Kasen Avila scored two runs and swiped a pair of bags.

Somerset Berkley 7, Foxboro 2

The Raiders bounced back from a loss with a home win over non-league Foxboro. Victoria Dematteo went the distance for SBR (7-4), allowing five hits, an earned run and fanned six batters. Lillian Brisson (RBI, two runs scored) and Julia Costa (double) each finished with two hits. Brooke Crombie, Julia Moreira (pinch-hit double), Sydney Bednarz (sacrifice fly, double, two RBIs, run scored), Emma Javier (double, two runs scored), Sophia Thornton (RBI), Makenzie Jacob (RBI), Tatum Swanson (double, run scored) and Dematteo (double, run scored) each had a hit.

Bristol-Plymouth 7, Diman 2

Alyvia Moniz went 3-for-3 with two doubles for the Bengals in Bristol-Plymouth's home win. Danielle Mello had three hits, including two doubles, an RBI and a run scored for Diman (6-3). Nya Martinez collected a pair of hits and scored a run. Alexah Pedder had two hits while Natalie Raposa finished with a hit and an RBI. Ashley Carvalho went the distance, striking out three.

Wareham 19, Westport 4

Isabella Babb, Sophia Meleo and Samantha Bouchard each added a hit for the Wildcats (2-5) in Wareham's road win.

Durfee 5, New Bedford 0

Will Rumsey (6-1, 7-6 (7-3), Colin Fleet (6-1, 6-0) and Jack Fitzgerald (6-3, 6-3) each won their singles match in a home win against New Bedford. Timothy Archambault and Xavier Inacio won in straight sets, 6-3, 6-0. Timothy Archambault and Kareem Karam won at second doubles, 5-7, 7-6 (7-4), (10-7).

Somerset Berkley 5, West Bridgewater 0

Zach Costa, Jackson Souza and Max Petit each won their singles match for the Raiders in a win against West Bridgewater. Brayden Dorego/Ian Foulds and Jasper Troutman/Ryan Charest were double winners for SBR (7-2; 4-2 in SCC).

Diman 3, Wareham 2

Connor Kennedy, Michael Larivee and Andrew Librera each won their singles match for the Bengals (3-2) in a win against Wareham.

Fairhaven 5, Westport 0

The Wildcats lost to Fairhaven. Standouts for Westport (5-3) were Brody Girard (second singles), Jack Keane (third singles), Luke Coelho/Fotis Machairas at first doubles and Luke Santos and Zach Lopes at second doubles.

Girls Tennis

Durfee 3, New Bedford 2

Maggie O’Connell and Brook Tabicas each won their singles match for the Hilltoppers in a win against New Bedford. Madi Tabicas and Gabby Farias win a contested match at first singles, securing the win for Durfee (3-4).

Somerset Berkley 5, West Bridgewater 0

The Raiders wn their fourth straight match, beating non-league opponent West Bridgewater. Winners for SBR (4-4) were Julia Lanczycki (6-0, 6-0), Kori Tickel (6-0, 6-2), Maya Goode (7-6, 6-2), Michaela Vasconcelos/Josie Borden (6-4) and Sophia Rocha/Reagan Killoran (6-1, 3-6, 6-0).

Fairhaven 5, Westport 0

The Wildcats dropped their match at home against Fairhaven. First doubles Madison Plourde and Avery Carvalho lost a close one 4-6, 3-6. Ella Baldwin and Gabby Juristo lost at second doubles for Westport (1-6), 4-6, 4-6.

Boys Outdoor Track

Seekonk 84, Case 47

The Cardinals dropped a league meet against Seekonk. Winners for Case (1-2) were Ben Fortier (javelin; 141'10"), Owen Dias (400 hurdles; 60.28), Jackson Deady (800; 2:07), Nick Thorpe (400; 52.8), Tyler Lamonde (200; 23.3) and Aiden Wallace (mile; 5:28).

Girls Outdoor Track

Case 90, Seekonk 41

Hannah Santos was a triple winner for the Cardinals, winning the triple jump (35'3), high jump (5'2) and the 100 hurdles (17.2) in their win over Seekonk. Aiyana Massie was a double winner for Case (3-0), winning the 100 (12.45) and long jump (16'5"). Ashlyn Byrnes won the 2-mile (12:58) and mile (5:59). Other winners were Libby Gazaille (shot put), Caroline Lander (javelin) and Lauren Reynolds (400). Emma Bouchard placed second in 200 with a school record matching time of 26.8.

Softball

Case 28, Old Rochester 0

Lila Alvarez and Meg Pereira combined for a no-hitter to lift the defending Division 4 state champion Cardinals to a win over Old Rochester on the road. Alvarez fanned eight of nine batters for the win for Case (10-1). She also went 3-for-4 at the plate with five RBIs. Pereira struck out five batters. Ella Preston had four hits and four RBIs. Bre Fontes had three hits, including two doubles. Brooke Perron went 3-for- 4 at the plate.

Dighton-Rehoboth 18, Somerset Berkley 6

The Raiders dropped a league contest to Dighton-Rehoboth at home. Julia Costa went 3-for-3 with a run scored for SBR (6-4). Tatum Swanson (double, run scored) and Sydney Bednarz (two RBIs, run scored) each collected two hits. Samantha Comeau (double, 2 RBIs, run scored), Makenzie Jacob (home run, two RBIs, run scored) and Emma Javier (run scored) each finished with a hit.

Case 12, Old Rochester 2

The Cardinals took care of business at home against Old Rochester. Reid Ulmschneider had a pair of hits, scored a run and had three 3 RBIs for Case (6-6). Jack Orton pitched three innings of relief, allowing no hits, no runs, one walk while striking out two. Dylan Amaral (two run scored, RBI) and Zach Kern (run scored) each had two hits. Sam Deady (two runs scored, two RBIs), Adam Gracie (double, two runs scored). Lucas Saltmarsh, Lucas Beaulieu, Jackson McLane, and Cayden Gonsalves all had RBI hits.

Somerset Berkley 1, Dighton-Rehoboth 0

Will Dionne pitched a gem, lifting the Raiders to a road win over Dighton-Rehoboth. Dionne fanned 10 batters in his complete game win, allowing just one hit and two walks. Liam Meehan led SBR (8-3) with a pair of hits. Luke Thorton had a hit and drove in the lone run. Landon Richardson scored a run.

Brockton 4, Durfee 3, 8 inn.

Despite a solid outing for Matt Almedia, the Hilltoppers six-game win streak was snapped against Brockton in extra innings. Almeida went the distance for Durfee (8-2; 3-1 in Southeast Conference), allowing two earned runs, five hits, two walks while fanning seven batters. Ameida also contributed a two-run single. Matt Sherry, Aidan Travers, Ben Sherry and Joe Silvia also had hits.

Boys Tennis

The Wildcats took four of five games against Case. Brody Girard (6-0, 6-2) win in straight sets at second singles. Jack Keane (6-0, 6-0) dominated his match at third singles for Westport (5-2). At first doubles, Luke Coelho and Avery Howell won 6-1, 6-1 while Chris Duarte and Toby Stapleton came out on top at second doubles, 6-2, 6-2.

Diman 3, Wareham 2

Michael Larivee, Andrew Librera and Kaidyn Fournier each won their singles match for the Bengals (2-2) in a road win against Wareham.

Girls Tennis

Diman 3, Wareham 2

The Bengals remained unbeaten after beating Wareham. Gloria Moniz delivered another stellar performance at second singles, winning in straight sets for Diman (4-0). Sophia Lourenço made her debut in the third singles spot, securing a dramatic victory in the final set. Chloe Baker and Abigail Barosso dominated in second doubles, winning in straight sets.

Case 3, Westport 2

The Cardinals took three of five games against Westport. Taking care of business at first singles for the Wildcats (1-5) was Kaelyn Jones (6-1, 6-2). Abby Forbes came from behind to win at third singles, 3-6, 6-3, 13-11 (tiebreaker).

Middleboro 4, Durfee 1

Brook Tabicas won at third singles for the Hilltoppers (2-4) and now has a 4-1 record in Middleboro's road win.

Girls Lacrosse

Somerset Berkley 6, Seekonk 5

The Raiders won their first game in program's history after beating league opponent Seekonk. Addie Finlaw led the way for SBR with three goals and an assist. Emily Carr chipped in with a pair of goals and Ella Vaught added a goal. Sophia Valcourt had 15 saves in net.

Boys Outdoor Track

Bridgewater-Raynham 132, Durfee 3

Freshman Jomo Kieta took third place in shot put for the Hilltoppers in Bridgewater-Raynham's win on the road. Sophomore Alvin Gaston finished in third place in the triple jump and junior Hyde Farias came in third place in the 110 hurdles for Durfee (1-2).

Boys Volleyball

Taunton 3, Durfee 0

Despite a season-high in assists for Danny Matuszek, the Hilltoppers dropped their game against Taunton. Chris Milfort had 23 kills and Josh Sanon collected 18 kills. Elias DaSilva and Braeden Bartley were great on serve reception. Ethan Horseman had 12 service points while Lucas DeCampos was strong in the middle. JO Olubanwo had a 10 service run in the fourth set.

Tuesday

Boys Outdoor Track

Diman 103, Holbrook 33; Diman 115, Cape Cod Tech. 27.5

The Bengal boys won their meet against Holbrook and Cape Cod Tech. Phoenix Bennett had three first place finishes in the long jump (19'3"), 100 (11.2) and 200 (23.0). Cashton Richard was a triple winner in the 400 hurdles (1:00.5), the 110 hurdles (17.5) and the javelin (127'10") for Diman (6-1). Bryce Medeiros placed first in the triple jump (39'11") and second in the high jump (5'8").

Girls Outdoor Track

Diman 85, Holbrook 50; Diman 128, Cape Cod Tech. 7

The Bengals swept a dual meet against Holbrook and Cape Cod Tech. Emma Foley took first in the long jump (16'3"), triple jump (33'10"), 100 hurdles (17.4) and placed second overall in the 200 (28.0) for Diman (6-1). Katie Miranda won the discus, extending her school record (87'10), and won the shot put (27'1). Isabelle Chekares won the mile (6:07) and placed second in the 400 (68.3). Danica Felizberto took first in the high jump (4'4) and placed second in the 100 hurdles (19.4) Kaylee Lachapelle placed second overall in the javelin (81'7). Nicole Mota won the 800 (2:56) and placed second in the 400 hurdles (1:21).

Softball

Middleboro 16, Durfee 11

Niyah Boone had four hits and drove in three runs for the Hilltoppers in Middleboro's home win. Pasiley Parisee, Katerina Rumsey and Rachel Silva each had two hits for Durfee (1-7). Mia Jacob played great defense, turning a double play.

Bristol-Plymouth 15, Westport 5

Layla Bossie was 2-for-2 with a double for the Wildcats in Bristol-Plymouth's road win. Tess Silvia had two hits, including a double and RBI. Julia George went 2-for-4 with a stolen base. Mackenzy Ponte pitched six innings with four strikeouts.

Boys Tennis

Durfee 5, Brockton 0

Will Rumsey, Collin Fleet and Jack Fitzgerald each won their singles match for the Hilltoppers in a win against league opponent Brockton. Xavier Inacio and Chrispan Sokol won in straight sets at first doubles, 6-2, 6-0. Durfee (4-2) won by forfeit at second doubles.

Somerset Berkley 4, Dighton-Rehoboth 1

Jackson Souza (6-2, 6-0) and Max Petit (6-0, 6-1) collected singles win in the Raiders' victory over Dighton-Rehoboth. Brayden Dorego and Jasper Troutman won at first singles, 6-2, 6-0 while Ryan Charest and Austin Russell won their first varsity matches at second doubles, 6-4, 6-3.

Girls Tennis

Durfee 4, Brockton 1

Liv Rumsey, Maggie O’Connell and Brook Tabicas each won their singles match in straight sets for the Hilltoppers in a win over Brockton. Gabby Farias and Sydnie Duong won their match at first doubles.

Somerset Berkley 4, Dighton-Rehoboth 1

The Raiders won their third straight game, beating league opponent Dighton-Rehoboth. Julia Lanczycki (6-3, 6-1) and Ava Aguiar (6-1, 6-2) won their singles match for SBR (3-4). Kori Tickel and Josie Borden won at first singles, 6-1, 6-1 while Sophia Rocha and Reagan Killoran won in straight sets at second doubles, 7-6, 6-2.

Boys Lacrosse

Bristol-Plymouth 13, Westport 2

Despite goals by Thomas Bernard and Nick Stanton, the Wildcats dropped their game against Bristol-Plymouth. Goalie Aiden Thadeu had 13 saves in net for the Westport (1-7).

Boys Volleyball

Durfee 3, King Philip 0

Danny Matuszek had 30 assists to help lead the Hilltoppers to a sweep over King Philip. Chris Milfort had 18 kill shots and Josh Sanon added 10 kill shots for Durfee (6-4). Elias DaSilva had strong game in serve receive, finishing with 11 digs and three aces. JO Olobunwo contributed four aces and Thomas Losime was strong in the middle on defense in his first varsity start.

Baseball

Durfee 6, Bishop Stang 5

Jayden Souza pitched five strong innings, scattering seven hits, two runs, two walks and one strikeout to lift the Hilltoppers to their sixth straight win over Bishop Stang. Souza missed the first eight games due to an injury in the preseason. Joe Silvia was 2-for-3 at the plate for Durfee (8-1; 3-0 in Southeast Conference). Jeyden Espinal (two runs scored), Matt Sherry, Aidan Travers, Ben Sherry and Owen Moniz each checked in with a hit.

Atlantis Charter 18, Neighborhood House Charter 0

Jared Brown threw his first high school no-hitter as the Tritons mercy-ruled Neighborhood House Charter at home. Collyn Viverios and Davion Adediran each had two hits for Atlantis Charter (4-3). Brady Viverios, Devon Paradise, Liam DeSouza, Brady Cambra, Jacob Arruda and Brady Mak each had hits in the contest.

Diman 7, Old Colony 1

The undefeated Bengals won their sixth straight game in a row in a win against Old Colony. Byron Bell led Diman on offense with four hits and two RBI. Sam Perry, Jacob Almeida and Levi Russell each had two hits each and multiple RBIs. Diman collected 13 hits overall. Kole Andrade pitched the complete game, allowing four hits, stuck out 6 and allowed a walk.

Somerset Berkley 5, Bourne 0

Ethan Santos, Brady Carpenter and Evan Isidorio combined for the Raiders' shutout win over league opponent Bourne. Landon Richardson contributed a pair of hits and two RBI. Mason Medeiros and Jayden Cruz (two hits) each drove in a run.

Case 10, West Bridgewater 0

The Cardinals collected a mercy-rule, shutout victory against West Bridgewater. Jackson McLane pitched the distance for Case (5-6), allowing two hits, a walk, no runs and struck out five in six innings. Lucas Saltmarsh (run scored, two RBIs, stolen base), Reid Ulmschneider (run scored, RBI) and Will LeBoeuf (run scored, stolen base) each had two hits. Aedan Borges scored two runs and Zach Kern contributed two RBIs.

Softball

Case 13, West Bridgewater 0

Cailyn Durand pitched a one-hitter and did not allow a runner past first base to lift the defending Division 4 state champion Cardinals to a shutout win over West Bridgewater. Durand fanned seven batters for Case (9-1). Skye Dupre had a pair of hits, including a home run and a double. Brooke Perron had two hits while Caitlin Shea drove in the final runs of the game.

Somerset Berkley 15, Bourne 1

The Raiders dominated league opponent Bourne in a mercy-rule game on the road. Sophia Thornton allowed just two hits, a walk, earned run while strikingout five. Victoria Dematteo had four hits, including a double, triple, four RBIs and two runs scored for SBR (6-3). Julia Costa went 4-for-5 with a double, two RBIs and two runs scored. Makenzie Jacob (two RBIs, run scored), Sydney Bednarz (two doubles, two RBIs, run scored), Emma Javier (walk, two runs scored and Thornton (double, RBI, two runs scored) each had a pair of hits. Samantha Comeau (triple, run scored), Brooke Crombie (walk, RBI, two runs scored), Lillian Brisson (walk, run scored) and Tatum Swanson (double, walk, two RBIs, run scored) all finished with a hit.

Diman 16, Bristol-Aggie 4

Kacie Lynch had a pair of hits, including a home run and an RBI to lead the Bengals to a win over Bristol-Aggie. Nadia Ponte went 2-for-4 with a triple and three RBIs. Ashley Carvalho, Courtney Boies (double, three runs scored, RBI), Nya Martinez (two runs scored, three RBIs), Danielle Mello (two runs scored) and Natalie Raposa (three runs scored, RBI) each had a hit for Diman (6-2). Alyvia Moniz had a sacrifice fly and an RBI.

Tri-County 24, Diman 14

The Bengals dropped a wild affair with Tri-County at home. Kacie Lynch went 2-for-4 with a triple, three runs scored and three RBIs for Diman (5-2). Nya Martinez had a pair of hits, scored two runs and had an RBI. Ashley Carvalho (double), Courtney Boies (two stolen bases,three runs scored), Alexah Pedder (two runs scored, RBI), Nadia Ponte (double, two runs scored) and Lana Varao each finished with a hit.

Boys Tennis

Somerset Berkley 3, Durfee 2

Jackson Souza (6-1, 6-4) and Max Petit (6-1, 6-0) each won their singles match in the Raiders win over Durfee. The second doubles team of Calvin Perrotty and Jasper Troutman (6-2, 6-2) won at second doubles for SBR (5-2). Will Rumsey was a winner for the Hilltoppers at first singles. Durfee's (4-1) Chrispin Sokol and Xavier Inacio defeated Brayden Dorego and Kaylen Langlois 6-4, 7-6 (10-8).

Westport 4, Bishop Stang 1

The Wildcats took four of five games against Bishop Stang. Sam Van Saun clinched the victory at first singles for Westport (4-2), 5-7, 6-3, 6-4. Jack Keane won third singles, 6-1, 6-0. Fotis Machairas and Luke Santos won at first doubles, 6-7 (8-6), 7-5, 7-5 while Zach Lopes and Avery Howell won in straight sets at second doubles, 6-3, 6-1.

Somerset Berkley 3, Seekonk 2
