Doyline’s Izayla Harris makes rare mark on LSWA All-State track and field team

It’s not often a Class B track and field athlete posts one of the top times in the state in a singular event. But most athletes are not like Doyline’s Izayla Harris.

As a junior, the speedster posted the fastest girls’ 100-meter time at 11.66 seconds to become the only athlete, male or female, from a school smaller than Class 1A to have a best 2023 track and field mark. The next best times statewide in the 100 were posted by Amairi Ashford of Class 3A Patrick Taylor (11.72) and Sade Gray of Class 5A Scotlandville (11.72).

A couple of things led to Harris’ success on the track.

“Don’t lose hope and you can do anything you put your mind to,” Harris said. “I worked hard every day to do what I love. It wasn’t easy, but it was worth it.”

Harris is continuing her work this summer with her summer track team to build momentum for her senior campaign.

“We’ve been going around Louisiana for meets,” she said.
