After trading away the Flower Mound native earlier in the NBA’s 2023 offseason to land star big man Kristaps Porzingis, the Celtics turned around and dealt fan-favorite big man Robert Williams III and 2023 Sixth Man Malcolm Brogdon to land former Milwaukee Bucks star floor general from the Portland Trail Blazers.
While Holiday may not be the same sort of dive-for-loose-balls maniac Smart made a name for himself in Boston doing, the UCLA alum’s more even-keeled approach to excellence on both ends of the court is reminiscent of the best of Smart’s tenure with the Celtics.
