DeSean Jackson’s 2019 wish to reunite with Sean McVay has been granted
When DeSean Jackson arrives in Los Angeles as an official member of the Rams, he’ll be able to skip a formal introduction with his new head coach. Sean McVay knows Jackson, and knows him well. Both were in Washington together from 2014-2016, when McVay was the offensive coordinator and Jackson was lining up at wide receiver.
In those three seasons, Jackson caught 142 passes for 2,702 yards and scored 14 touchdowns, playing a total of 39 games. He led the NFL in yards per catch twice in three years with Washington, which is proof that McVay knows how to scheme him open.
So it’s no wonder Jackson wanted to reunite with McVay after the 2018 season. He said in January 2019 – while still a member of the Buccaneers – that he’d like to play for McVay again, hopefully ending up with the Rams at some point.
Consider his wish granted.
“Worst-case scenario, if anything, I would like to kind of end up in L.A., being a Ram,” Jackson said. “Sean McVay, you know we got some connections from when I was in D.C. But we’ll see how it plays out. Right now, got another year in Tampa, so we’ll see how it plays out.”
This is also a homecoming for Jackson, who’s from Long Beach and remained in California throughout college. So he not only gets to play for one of the best offensive coaches in football, but he also gets to return home to the West Coast.
It’s hard not to like this move for both Jackson and the Rams.
