MADISON – Wisconsin coach Luke Fickell has lost another player to the transfer portal, this time at a position of need.

Fifth-year senior defensive end Rodas Johnson, who started 22 games and played in 38 for UW, entered the transfer portal Monday.

Johnson was among the 20 players honored during Senior Day last month.

The departure of Johnson leaves UW with four ends with experience: James Thompson, Ben Barten, Cade McDonald and Darian Varner.

Thompson recorded three sacks, five tackles for loss and 27 total tackles during the regular season. Those numbers led all the linemen.

Barten had 10 tackles, Varner had five and McDonald had three.

Johnson recorded one-half sack, two tackles for loss and 18 total tackles in his final season at UW.

The Badgers are expected to sign two defensive linemen Wednesday – tackle Dillan Johnson and end Hank Weber.

UW’s staff has extended offers to several defensive linemen since the transfer portal opened Dec. 4 but so far has not secured a commitment.
