Who is the Gainesville-area's Athlete of the Week winner for February 19-25?

Sticks have been raised across the Gainesville area, and that means one thing.

Lacrosse season is here.

The sport's presence has now been shown in the Gainesville Sun's Athlete of the Week poll as we have our first lax winner.

Santa Fe's Grace Miranda is the Gainesville-area Athlete of the Week for Feb. 19-25. She won by the narrowest margin yet, less than 60 votes ahead of Lafayette baseball's Hyatt Richardson.

The junior shined for the Raiders with seven goals in games vs. Maclay and Eastside. She scored four in the 12-9 loss to Maclay and three in the 18-0 win over the Rams.

For the season, Miranda has shined with 17 goals and 20 points.

SF is 3-3 this season with a close loss to Menendez and a tight win over GHS in the last week.

During the season, a poll launches each Monday at https://www.gainesville.com/sports/high-school/ to determine the Athlete of the Week from the previous week's top performances. We accept nominations to nram@gannett.com through each Sunday afternoon.

Your vote determines who will be honored as North Central Florida's best.

The poll will be live until Friday at midnight, with the winner announced Friday morning.
