David Price jokes he'll play 'Fortnite' to avoid pitching for A.J. Hinch in All-Star game

Boston Red Sox pitcher David Price has not been having his best season.

The five-time All-Star started the year with a 5.11 ERA and 1.41 WHIP through seven starts before shutting down in early May because of carpal tunnel syndrome.

Did video games hurt David Price?

Some speculated that video games were the crux of his wrist woes as he and some teammates are known to be avid ‘Fortnite’ players. Red Sox manager Alex Cora was skeptical of the speculation, and a Boston sports medicine doctor agreed, saying that console video gaming shouldn’t cause wrist problems.

The downtime apparently did Price some good, as he has rallied to lower his season ERA to 3.76 and his WHIP to 1.205 with seven starts since being scratched with the carpal tunnel diagnosis, all games that resulted in Red Sox wins.

Price getting All-Star buzz since being scratched

It’s a performance that’s earning some outside All-Star buzz for the former Cy Young winner.

He addressed the All-Star talk on Tuesday and joked that if Houston Astros manager A.J. Hinch selects him for the team, he has a very self-aware plan to avoid working for the skipper of the Red Sox’ American League rival.

Doesn’t want to pitch for A.J. Hinch

“I feel like if he did, it would just be to get me to throw an extra inning,” Price told the Boston Herald. “And that would be a pretty pro move on his part. I’ll come up with something, if I am an All-Star, so I won’t have to pitch. I’ll play a lot of Fortnite the night before, so I’ll be down.”

A sense of humor is a good quality to carry in life. Price appears to have one about his video game escapades and his baseball rivalries.
