Danny Etling is LSU's starting quarterback
The man who finished the 2016 season as LSU’s starting quarterback will start the 2017 as the Tigers’ QB.
LSU coach Ed Orgeron said Tuesday that Danny Etling would be the starting quarterback when the Tigers play BYU on Sept. 2. Etling took over as the team’s starter for Brandon Harris in 2016. Harris is now at North Carolina.
Etling was 160-269 passing for 2,123 yards, 11 touchdowns and five interceptions a year ago. The Purdue transfer will have his third offensive coordinator in three seasons too. After playing for OC Cam Cameron in 2016, Etling’s offensive coordinator will be former Pitt coordinator Matt Canada.

Canada is tasked with opening up an offense that has averaged less than 200 yards passing per game for the last three seasons.
Orgeron said freshman quarterback Myles Brennan was a “very close second” to Etling in the QB competition. Brennan, a native of Mississippi, was a four-star recruit in the class of 2017 and the No. 12 pro-style quarterback in the country according to Rivals. While we wouldn’t be surprised to see Brennan get some playing time in 2017, our thought is that Etling got the job because of his newfound snap chemistry with center Will Clapp.
