Daniel Suarez will have a new but familiar crew chief for the final six races of the 2018 season.

Joe Gibbs Racing said Scott Graves was leaving the organization immediately and would be replaced by Dave Rogers. Graves took over as Suarez’s crew chief five races into the 2017 season. He replaced Rogers, who took a leave of absence from the team.

Now Rogers is back, even if it’s in a fairly temporary role. Suarez’s post-2018 future is still publicly unknown. Multiple reports have said Martin Truex Jr. is joining the team in 2019 along with crew chief Cole Pearn. No official announcement has been made but Suarez would be the driver who makes way for Truex at JGR if and when that happens.

Suarez is currently 18th in the points standings. He has three top fives and eight top 10s in 2018. He was 20th in his rookie season in 2017 after replacing Carl Edwards following Edwards’ abrupt retirement.
