Daniel Jones out for Giants Sunday night at Buffalo, Darren Waller questionable, Adoree Jackson a late injury add

Daniel Jones (neck) is out as expected for Sunday night’s visit to Buffalo, where the Giants (1-4) are 15-point underdogs to the Bills (3-2) with Tyrod Taylor starting at quarterback.

Brian Daboll wouldn’t answer a question Friday about whether Jones needs to get a second opinion on his injury, either.

“He’s getting better, so we’ll see,” Daboll said. “We’ll take it day by day.”

Day by day in East Rutherford these days can mean week to week or month to month.

Left tackle Andrew Thomas (left hamstring) will miss his fifth straight game Sunday with an injury Daboll called day-to-day in Week 2.

Daboll claimed that Saquon Barkley had a chance to play Week 3 in San Francisco, but Barkley has missed three games since. And on Thursday, Barkley said this is “the timeline I probably was given” at the outset.

Last Sunday in Miami, an injury was never announced in-game for edge rusher Azeez Ojulari, who never played after the first snap of the second half. But Daboll said postgame he had injured his ankle, and now Ojulari will miss the Bills game, too.

Then on Friday, corner Adoree Jackson suddenly showed up on the Giants’ injury report with a “ribs” injury as a full participant. That makes 18 different Giants players who appeared on the report this week.

Jackson has no game status, which means the team expects him to play. But what’s strange is that the injury may stem from last Sunday’s Miami game.

Defensive coordinator Wink Martindale and defensive backs coach Jerome Henderson were separately asked this week about Jackson’s absence on Tyreek’s Hill long third-quarter touchdown and during the late fourth quarter against the Dolphins.

Martindale’s answer Thursday was: “You’ve got to talk to [Daboll] on that. [Daboll] and the trainers.”

Henderson’s answer Friday was: “You’ll have to talk to the trainers, talk to [Daboll] about that.”

It will be interesting to see if Jackson’s presence on the report further balloons the betting line.

Center John Michael Schmitz (shoulder) and backup left tackle Matt Peart (shoulder) also were among the five Giants players ruled out Friday. There are 12 players on the final report in total, including seven who are questionable:

That group includes tight end Darren Waller (groin), running backs Saquon Barkley (ankle) and Gary Brightwell (ankle), offensive linemen Evan Neal (ankle) and Shane Lemieux (groin), linebacker Micah McFadden (ankle) and defensive lineman D.J. Davidson (knee).

Neal and Davidson didn’t practice at all on Friday. Barkley remained limited. So did wide receiver Wan’Dale Robinson (knee), who was ruled out with a concussion in the Dolphins fourth quarter and then cleared.

Five more players had injury designations but practiced in full: corners Jackson, Deonte Banks (ankle) and Cor’Dale Flott (ankle), punter Jamie Gillan (illness) and guard Marcus McKethan (knee).

The Buffalo Bills, by comparison, ended up with only three questionable players on their final game status injury report: tight ends Dawson Knox (wrist) and Dalton Kincaid (concussion) and corner Dane Jackson (foot).
