A Dad's Adorable Review Of His Daughter's Play Kitchen Draws Attention to Black-Owned Restaurants

Depending on who you follow on social media, you might have seen some circulating information about Black-owned restaurants and businesses worth supporting in your area over the past few days. It’s a disappointingly short list in some places, but at a time when restaurants are already struggling, making a concerted effort to keep your dining dollars in the local community is a great way to help out while staying fed.

But no matter which Black-owned business you might choose to support, you have to admit that none of them are probably as adorable as Ava’s Kitchen. Recently brought to public attention in a “review” by Christophe Kyle on Instagram, it reads like a very cute bit of father-daughter time while ultimately reminding us to support black-owned restaurants where we can.

“So I tried to support another Black Owned Business for lunch today. It’s called Ava’s Kitchen, just opened end of April,” Kyle said in the caption to the photo of him sitting down for a meal at his daughter’s kitchen playset. He then went on to playfully complain about the service, noting a 45-minute wait despite being the only customer in there. “She was making good progress at first, then she stopped for 20 minutes to go watch Paw Patrol.”

But what’s important about this post, beyond a father showing off his adorable daughter to the world, is how the post ends: “Overall the customer service could be better, but the cook is a cutie; so I’ll give her another chance. Let’s not give up on Black businesses so fast after one mistake.”

As can happen with this sort of thing, the viral Instagram post demanded a follow-up, and it looks like “business” has since been booming at Ava’s Kitchen as evidenced by the line (of stuffed animals) “down the block.” You love to see it.

It’s unclear at this time whether Ava’s Kitchen is open for dining, or still operating as a takeout-only establishment. The good news is that there are lots of other Black-owned restaurants you can support right now, so give it a shot.
