Columbus Crew striker Cucho Hernandez named MLS Player of the Month for September

Cucho Hernandez is the MLS Player of the Month for September.

The star striker is the second Crew player since 2022 to be named as the league's player of the month, joining Lucas Zelarayan, who earned the honors in February/March 2022.

In September, Hernandez led the league with eight goals and an assist across five matches. He is the first player since Josef Martinez in 2017 to record multiple hat tricks in a single month, recording three goals on the road against CF Montreal Sept. 2 and three at home against Chicago Fire FC Sept. 20.

In September, Hernandez contributed to nine of the Crew's 12 scores.

Hernandez is the fourth Crew player to earn player of the month honors in the past 10 seasons, joining Zelarayan, Justin Meram (October 2016) and Zack Steffen (May 2018)

Hernandez is the first Colombian player to earn player of the month recognition since Fredy Montero did it for Seattle in July 2010.

Hernandez and the Crew will take on the New England Revolution Wednesday at 7:30 p.m.
