Coldwater track sweeps Interstate 8 double dual

BATTLE CREEK – The Coldwater track and field program traveled to Pennfield High School in Battle Creek on Wednesday for a huge day of action in the Interstate 8 conference. Coldwater had a stellar showing, sweeping the double dual on both sides, defeating the tandem of Marshall and Pennfield in both boy’s and girl’s action.

The Coldwater Cardinals girls team swept their Interstate 8 double dual on Wednesday, defeating Marshall 107-50 and Pennfield 116-34. In the third dual it was Marshall defeating Pennfield 111-37.

Coldwater won 10 of the 17 events competed on the night, including a sweep of the field events.

Leading the way for Coldwater was junior throwing ace Elli Foley who swept the throwing events, winning the shot put in a throw of 39 feet, 3 inches and the discus with a throw of 105 feet, 9 inches.

Also taking wins in the Cardinal sweep of the field events was Jaleah Sloan with a first place finish in the high jump with a jump of 4 feet, 10 inches; Ava Longstreet with a win in the pole vault with a vault of 8 feet, 9 inches; and Ella Grabowski with a win in the long jump with a jump of 16 feet, 10 inches.

Coldwater also took wins in three of the four relays for big points on the night. Taking victories were the 400 meter relay team of Miyah Moore, Longstreet, Abigial Robison, and Madilynn Persails with a time of 53.70 seconds; the 800 relay team of Moore, Grace Huff, Ella Thompson, and Sloan, first place in at time of 1 minute, 48.00 seconds; and the 1600 relay of Olivia Golematis, Adriana Hernandez, Morgan Baker and Annika Johnson, first place in a time of 4:50.90.

Also taking wins for Coldwater on the night were Persails with a win in the 100 hurdles in a time of 18.23 and Morgan Baker with a win in the 300 hurdles in a time of 52.37 seconds.

Rounding out the Coldwater effort with a top three effort was Grabowski, second place in the 100 and third place in the 200; Sloan, third place in the 100 and third place in the long jump; Miyah Moore, second place in the 200 and third place in the 400; Grace Huff, second place in the 400; Mackenzie Scheid, second place in the 800; Morgan Baker, third place in the 100 hurdles and third place in the high jump; the 3200 relay team of Olivia Golematis, Hernandez, Scheid, and Johnson, second place; Marie Powers, second place in the shot put; Danika Cox, third place in the shot put; Morgan Dancer, third place in the discus; Abigail Robison, second place in the pole vault.

Coldwater boys show off depth in win, take 10 of 17 events in double dual

On the boy's side of the competition, it was Coldwater taking the two wins, edging conference rival Marshall 91.5-71.5 while also beating Pennfield 131-32. In the third dual it was Marshall downing Pennfield 112-48.

Coldwater controlled the meet, winning 10 of 17 events competed in, including four of the five field events to cruise to victory.

Leading the way for the Cardinals with three individual wins was junior Kendall Austin who swept the hurdle events, winning the 110 hurdles in 15.95 seconds and the 300 hurdles in 42.36 seconds. Austin also won the long jump thanks to a leap of 19 feet, 10.5 inches.

In the field events it was big Jackson Reilly sweeping the throwing events, winning the shot put with a throw of 50 feet, 11.75 inches and the discus with a throw of 139 feet, 2 inches.

Also bringing home wins for the Coldwater sweep were Cooper Otto, first place in the pole vault with a vault of 10 feet, 6 inches; the 1600 relay team of Bennett McDonald, Mason Sabaitis, Landon Dirschell, and Claudel Wischmeyer, first place in a time of 3:39.87; Luke Aerts, first place in the 3200 in a time of 10:44.32; Wischmeyer, first place in the 400 in a time of 52.88 seconds; and Drew Vanderpuyl, first place in the 1600 in a time of 4:46.47.

Rounding out the Coldwater dual sweep with finishes inside the top three were Naseem Taha, third place in the 200; Vanderpuyl, third place in the 800 and second place in the 3200; Bennett McDonald, second place in the 110 hurdles and third place in the 300 hurdles; Hunter Barnett, third place in the 110 hurdles and second place in the 300 hurdles; the 400 relay team, second place; the 800 relay team of Taha, Dirschell, Sabaitis, and Reilly, second place; the 3200 relay team of Austin Accardi, Umari Umari, Talan Doll and Sebastian Hernandez, second place; Garrett McVicker, second place in the shot put and third place in the discus; Otto, second place in the pole vault; Drew Ennis, second place in the pole vault; and Dayne Knap, third place in the long jump.

Coldwater will be in action again on Monday when they head to Parma Western for the final Interstate 8 dual meet of the season.
