Chiefs release C Austin Reiter, RB Wayne Gallman from practice squad

The Kansas City Chiefs terminated the practice squad contracts of two players on Tuesday.

The team released DE Azur Kamara from the practice squad on Monday to make room for WR Bryan Edwards. We knew that at least one more move on the practice squad was coming with news that RB Melvin Gordon III was also signed to the team’s practice squad, but Brett Veach surprised fans by making two moves.

The Chiefs released both C Austin Reiter and RB Wayne Gallman from the practice squad on Tuesday. Reiter, of course, started 38 games for Kansas City from 2018-2020 and was the team’s starting center in both Super Bowl LIV and Super Bowl LV.

Reiter was the only true center that the team had on both the 53-man roster and practice squad outside of starting center Creed Humphrey. Expect that practice squad OL Mike Caliendo will now slide into that role on the practice squad, while Nick Allegretti can play center in a pinch as well.

Gallman was an addition back in mid-October. The former fourth-round draft pick by the Giants was made expendable the moment the Chiefs made the decision to add Gordon to the practice squad as the two players have very similar skill sets.

Kansas City now has just 15 players on their 16-man practice squad with TE Jordan Franks on the practice squad/injured list with a broken hand.
