Check out the top performers around Emmet and Charlevoix Counties May 10-13

Here are the top high school sports performances from Friday through Monday around Emmet and Charlevoix counties.

There won’t be a set number of players chosen in each sport in a given period, just including performances which stood out and deserve recognition.

Check for another installment of top performers later this week.

BASEBALL 

Lucas Stone, East Jordan: Stone was nearly perfect in a 2-0 victory over Boyne City Monday across six innings. He struck out 12 batters and allowed just one base runner over his 70 pitches tossed, walking one. He also went 2 for 3 with an RBI against the Ramblers.

Eli Burns, East Jordan: Burns tossed a no-hitter against Bellaire late last week with 10 strikeouts and just a single walk allowed. He also tripled in the game, a 6-0 win.

Korbyn Russell, East Jordan: Russell earned the 1-0 win over Boyne City with a 5 1/3 no-hitter that came behind 11 strikeouts and just a lone walk allowed. He was also 2 for 3 with a double in a 2-0 win.

AJ Speigl, Charlevoix: Speigl has been pretty hot at the plate lately. He was 2 for 3 with a double and RBI in a 6-5 loss to Big Rapids, had an RBI triple against Sacred Heart, then went a combined 2 for 4 with two RBIs and three runs scored in wins of 9-0 and 13-0 vs. Grayling Monday.

Ryan Novak, Harbor Springs: Novak was solid on the mound again in a 4-1 win over Kalkaska, going six innings with three hits and a walk allowed, while striking out seven.

Ryder Malpass, East Jordan: Malpass had a strong outing in a 4-0 win over Bellaire last week, earning a win across 5 1/3 innings with seven strikeouts, while going 2 for 3 with a double and RBI.

Daniel Urman, Harbor Light: The Swordsmen split with TC Christian late last week, but Urman went 2 for 4 with a double and RBI in an 8-5 win.

Troy Nickel, Charlevoix: Nickel found his stroke with a 3 for 3 game that came with a run, double, RBI and two steals vs. Big Rapids over the weekend. He also went 2 for 4 with a double and three runs in a 9-0 win over Grayling.

Ryan Pearl, Charlevoix: Pearl had it going against Grayling Monday, going 2 for 4 with a double in a 9-0 win, then went 2 for 3 with three RBIs, a double and struck out eight in the win.

Will Paulus, Harbor Light: Paulus was solid in both games vs. TC Christian recently, a 3-2 loss and 8-5 win. He went 1 for 3 with an RBI double, then added a 2 for 3 game with an RBI, two runs and two steals.

Ben McShannock, Harbor Springs: McShannock helped Harbor Springs sweep Kalkaska Monday in wins of 4-1 and 8-4. He went 2 for 3 with a double, RBI and run scored, then added a single in game two.

Hunter Lemerand, Charlevoix: The big season for Lemerand continues behind another solid stretch. Across six innings vs. Grayling Monday, he struck out12 and allowed just one hit, while also doubling in the 9-0 win. He also went a combined 4 for 6 with three RBIs against Big Rapids and Sacred Heart Saturday.

Bryce Johnson, Charlevoix: Johnson picked up a five-inning no-hitter with eight strikeouts and four walks issued against Mount Pleasant Sacred Heart. He was also 1 for 2 with an RBI in the game.

Owen Waha, Charlevoix: In a 13-0 win over Grayling Monday, Waha picked up a 2 for 3 game with a homer, three runs scored and two steals.

TRACK

SOFTBALL 

Sidney Bush, Boyne City: Bush stayed strong over the weekend and into Monday. She went a combined 4 for 6 with two doubles, a triple, three RBIs and five runs scored against Detroit Country Day and Richmond, then went 4 for 4 with three RBIs and a double in a 9-0 win over East Jordan. She also pitched six innings, allowed a single hit and struck out five.

Anna Kemp, Charlevoix: Kemp has been on fire of late for the Rayders. Though on the wrong side of a sweep vs. Sault Ste. Marie, Kemp went 5 for 7 with four doubles, two RBIs and two runs scored. She also went 2 for 3 with three RBIs vs. Newberry, an 11-5 win.

Gracie Beauchamp, Mackinaw City: In a doubleheader against Burt Lake NMCA Monday, Beauchamp had three hits, including a homer, two RBIs, five runs and two steals in the 17-14 opener, then had two hits, an RBI, three runs and a steal in a 19-5 win.

Lillian Stone, East Jordan: In games against Bellaire and Boyne City of late, Stone has gone a combined 6 of 10 with two runs, an RBI and three steals.

Addison Cunningham, Charlevoix: Cunningham went 3 for 4 with three RBIs and two runs in a 27-15 loss to Sault Ste. Marie. She also doubled in a 15-4 loss against Grayling Monday.

Natalie Grobaski, Boyne City: Grobaski went 3 for 4 with a run and three RBIs in a loss to Detroit Country Day over the weekend.

Alley Whiteford, East Jordan: Whiteford had a solid couple games against Boyne despite a pair of losses, going a combined 3 for 4 with a double and two RBIs.

Ellie Clausen, Boyne City: Clausen finished a 17-14 loss to Detroit Country Day with a 3 for 4 line that included three RBIs and a run scored.

Petoskey's Sadie Corey continued her strong season on the back end of the PHS defense, bringing in shutouts seven and eight over the weekend.

SOCCER 

Madi Smith, Petoskey: Smith had a strong weekend with a pair of goals, one each against Marquette and Lake Orion, then added two assists as well.

Sadie Corey, Petoskey: Corey helped Petoskey clinch the No. 1 seed in their Division 2 soccer district this past weekend and recorded her eighth shutout in goal of the season in wins over Marquette and Grand Blanc.

LACROSSE 

Charlie Thomas, Petoskey: Against Waterford United on Friday, Thomas came through with five goals and five assists in a 13-5 victory.

Brandon Klingelsmith, Petoskey: Behind four goals and three assists from Klingelsmith, the Northmen earned a 13-5 victory over Waterford United.

Austin Klingelsmith, Petoskey: The standout season in goal continued for Austin Klingelsmith against Waterford United, as he made 16 saves in a 13-5 win.

GOLF 

Bryce Boss, Charlevoix: Boss has been turning it on for the Rayders of late, leading the team with a 79 at the Traverse City West hosted Titan Invite at Grand Traverse Resort, while also shooting 8 0 at Lost Lake Woods.

Ben Hanes, Harbor Light: Hanes stepped up to lead the Swordsmen at the Titan Invite, shooting an 83 at Grand Traverse Resort.

Caleb Knickerbocker, Petoskey: Knickerbocker finished the recent Titan Invite with a team-best 83.
