CCBL ROUNDUP: Falmouth scores 27 in win over Cotuit

In a game which had a final score that more closely resembled a football game, the Falmouth Commodores (20-17-2) beat the Cotuit Kettleers 27-2, and clinched a postseason berth.

The Commodores finished the night with 26 hits as a team, and scored nearly half of their runs in a 14 run fourth inning. Travis Bazanna (Oregon State) had a monster game at the plate. The junior finished 6-for-7 with two home runs, two doubles, eight RBIs and six runs scored. He raised his batting average over 30 points from .343 to .374 in one night. Michael Eze (Georgetown) also launched two home runs, and drove in six RBIs as part of his 3-for-7 day at the plate. Sam Houston State's Walker Janek had a three-run blast as part of the 14-run outburst, and finished with three RBIs. Sean Darnell (Wallace Community College) also had a big fly, and finished with a pair of RBIs, four hits, and four runs scored. Sam Houston State's Braden Davis pitched five innings of one-run baseball in his start.

Sean Keys (Bucknell) and Carter Mathison (Indiana) had the lone RBIs for Cotuit.

Yarmouth-Dennis Red Sox 14, Bourne Braves 0

The Red Sox (22-16-1) did all their scoring from the third through sixth innings, as they shutout the Braves (19-19-1). Braden Montgomery (Stanford) hit a three-run home run to help Y-D score five runs in the top of the fourth. Montgomery finished 3-6 with five RBIs, three runs scored, and even threw a scoreless inning of relief. RJ Austin (Vanderbilt) had a pair of hits, RBIs, and runs, while USC's Ryan Jackson reached base three times, scored three runs, and had an RBI. On the mound, Finnegan Wall (UC Irvine) got the start and threw six shutout innings, striking out six. Win Scott (NC State), Montgomery, and Max Banks (Chapman University), each threw a scoreless frame out of the bullpen to seal the shutout.

Joshua Kuroda-Grauer (Rutgers), and Bryce Eblin (Alabama) each had two hits in the loss.

Orleans Firebirds 8, Chatham Anglers 7/Chatham Anglers 5, Orleans Firebirds 4

In a resumption of a game that began on July 5, but was postponed due to fog, the Firebirds ultimately came out on top, winning 8-7, and clinching their spot in the 2023 playoffs.

The game picked up in the bottom of the fourth inning with Greyson Carter (Vanderbilt) on the mound with runners on and a full count. He promptly struck out the first batter to end the inning, and proceeded to throw another four innings to help Orleans win the game. Jack Penny (Notre Dame), and Eddie King (Louisville) both had home runs in the original July 5 matchup. In the resumption, Orleans needed two runs in the top of the ninth to flip a 7-6 deficit into an 8-7 win. Eddie Micheletti Jr. (George Washington) drove in Penny to tie the game, and Owen Carapellotti (Georgetown) brought in UC San Diego's Matt Halbach for the go-ahead run.

In game two, Orleans jumped out to an early lead off of Jo Oyama's (UC Irvine) leadoff home run. However, three batters in, and the Anglers tied the game, before taking the lead on Hawaii's Kyson Donahue's solo home run. Donahue finished the night 3-4 with two home runs, and a pair of RBIs. Liberty's Trey Gibson threw a five-out save, striking out three. UC San Diego's Matt Halbach had two RBIs in the loss.

Orleans finished the day 20-19, while Chatham is now 11-26-2.

Hyannis Harbor Hawks 9, Wareham Gatemen 8

After surrendering the lead in the top of the ninth, Hyannis (24-13-2) responded, and scored the winning run in the bottom of the ninth to walk-off the Gatemen (14-23-2). Bennett Thompson (Oregon) picked a great time to pick up his first and only RBI of the night. He drove in Trey Lipsey (Ohio State) with two down in the inning to send the home fans home happy. Zach Ehrhard (Oklahoma State) went 4-5 out of the leadoff spot, and scored three runs. Cam Smith (Florida State) went 3-5 with two RBI's, and Jonathan Gazdar (Austin Peay) had a pair of hits, two RBI's and a run scored.

Grant Hussey (West Virginia) had a seventh-inning grand slam for the Gatemen. Miami's Dorian Gonzales finished 3-for-5 with a double, and two runs scored, and JC Colon (Mizzou) had two hits and scored two runs.

Harwich Mariners 21, Brewster Whitecaps 5

The Mariners (17-21-2) used a nine-run second inning to launch them to victory over the Whitecaps (15-22-2). All nine starters for Harwich had at least one hit, scored at least twice, and drove in at least one. Duke's Daniel Obee, had the biggest night out of anyone. The junior went 4-for-6 with a home run, five RBIs and three runs scored. Marylands Kevin Keister also had a big night offensively, going 2-for-4 with a double, three RBIs and three runs scored. All nine of the Harwich runs in the second were unearned courtesy of a two-out throwing error that prolonged the inning.

Florida State's Jamie Ferrer hit a three-run home run in the fourth inning for the Whitecaps. His Florida State teammate James Tibbs also added an RBI.

Cotuit Kettleers 12, Chatham Angers 6 (Thurs.)

Sean Keys (Bucknell) hit a bases-clearing double as part of a seven-run outburst in the fourth for the Kettleers as they defeated the Anglers in a makeup game on Thursday. Keys finished with four RBIs on the night. Cole Mathis College of Charleston) finished the game 2-for-6 with an RBI and two runs scored. Aidan Hunter (College of Charleston threw three scoreless innings of relief and picked up the win.

Oklahoma State's Nolan Schubart had two RBIs to lead the way for Chatham in the loss. Bryce Martin-Grudzielanek (USC) had a pair of hits, and scored twice.
