Cardinals add 5 more players to offseason roster on ‘futures’ deals

The Arizona Cardinals announced 15 free agent signings on Tuesday to “futures” contracts for the 2021 season. They continued to their work on Wednesday, adding five more.

They announced they signed the following five players:

  • Offensive lineman Shaq Calhoun

  • Wide receiver Rico Gafford

  • Offensive lineman Sean Harlow

  • Linebacker Shareef Miller

  • Defensive lineman David Parry

OL Shaq Calhoun

Calhoun is listed at 6-foot-3 and 310 pounds. He started one game with the Cincinnati Bengals this season after splitting the season between their practice squad and active roster. He signed with the Miami Dolphins in 2019 as an undrafted rookie and player in 10 games, starting seven. He played collegiately ay Mississippi State, playing in 48 games and starting 36. He started every game in 2018 at guard.

WR Rico Gafford

Listed at 5-foot-10 and 185 pounds, Gafford has spent time with the Las Vegas Raiders for the last three years, appearing in eight games and catching two passes for 66 yards and a score. In 2020, he played in three games, bouncing between the roster and practice squad. He entered the league in 2018 as an undrafted rookie out of Wyoming as a defensive back with the Tennessee Titans. He converted to receiver with the Raiders. He also is a part owner of a restaurant in Des Moines, Iowa.

OL Sean Harlow

Harlow, listed at 6-foot-4 and 303 pounds, was selected in the fourth round of the 2017 out of Oregon State by the Atlanta Falcons. He has been on the practice squads of the Falcons and Indianapolis Colts and has spent a little time on the active roster. He played in one game for Atlanta in 2019.

LB Shareef Miller

Miller had a tryout with the Cardinals last week. Miller is 6-foot-4 and 254 pounds and played collegiately at Penn State. He had 14.5 sacks and 31.5 tackles for loss in three seasons he played. His best season was in 2018 when he had 7.5 sacks, 41 tackles and 15 tackles for loss. Things have not worked out for Miller in the NFL. He played only two defensive snaps in 2019 as a rookie. He was cut before the 2020 season, claimed by the Carolina Panthers, cut, re-signed with the Eagles practice squad and released in December. Miller was drafted by the Eagles one selection before the Cardinals took safety Deionte Thompson with the first pick of the fifth round that year.

DL David Parry

Parry showed up as having a workout with the Cardinals again this week for the third time. He had workouts in December and November. He entered the league in 2015 as a fifth-round pick of the Indianapolis Colts. He started all 32 games of 2015 and 2016 for the Colts. In those two seasons he had 78 combined tackles and four sacks. He played in four games the following two seasons between the New Orleans Saints and Minnesota Vikings. He has not played since 2018. He is 6-2 and 315 pounds.
