Cambridge Post 84 falls short in Don Coss tournament

CAMBRIDGE — It was a tough end to the Don Coss Tournament for Cambridge Post 84, which is now 11-16 on the season.

Findlay topped Cambridge 13-6 on Monday then Post 84 topped Zanesville 9-2 to open up bracket play before being eliminated with a 9-0 loss to Parkersburg on Tuesday.

Findlay plated three runs in the first inning, but Cambridge answered in the third when Aiden Reis drilled a two-run double with two outs to pull within 3-2.

Findlay plated three in the fourth and two in the fifth for an 8-2 lead, but Cambridge answered with four in the fifth, including a two-run single by Bryce Murdock. But, Findlay added two in the sixth and three in the seventh to round out the scoring.

Post 84 was held to three hits as Zayden Yeagle also doubled, while Findlay tallied 15 hits off four pitchers.

Against Zanesville, winning pitcher Gunner Davis tossed a no-hitter with five strikeouts and one walk, as Post 84 plated three runs in the second, two in the third and three in the fourth to take control.

Cambridge's three runs in the second came off a bases loaded walk and an error; Reis hit a RBI triple and Murdock followed with a RBI single in the third; and Matt McQuain singled home a pair of runs and Caleb Campbell came home on a passed ball in the fourth to make it 8-0.

McQuain and Reis each had two hits, while Konner McIntire, Gates Thompson and Davis added hits in the win.

Cambridge was held to three hits and committed four errors in the loss to Parkersburg.

Jake Valentine went the distance in the loss, allowing nine runs, three earned, on 10 hits with eight strikeouts and two walks, while Valentine, McIntire and Thompson each singled for Post 84.

Parkersburg topped Marietta 6-4 in the finals to win the Don Coss title.
