Calallen's Alex Quitugua voted Caller-Times High School Athlete of the Week
Calallen's Alex Quitugua tied a school record as part of a dominant defensive effort last week by the Wildcats and has been voted the Caller-Times High School Athlete of the Week for Oct. 25-30, 2021.
Quitugua intercepted three passes, part of five picks by the Calallen defense to tie the Wildcats single-game record.
Quitugua is the fourth Calallen football player to earn the honor this season, joining Epi Hinojosa, Luke Medina and Kade Wood.
Quitugua received 12,923 of the 34,701 votes cast, which was 37.2 percent of all votes this week.
Students can only be named Athlete of the Week one time per semester, per sport.
Sinton cross country runner Zerah Martinez was second with 9,110 votes.
Nominations are due each Monday by 5 p.m. and can be submitted through email at ctsports@caller.com, by messaging the Caller-Times through its Facebook page, or on Twitter @CallerSports. Please include statistics from the week's games and any pertinent information or honors.
Voting runs Tuesday through Thursday each week.
