Buffalo Bills vs. Dallas Cowboys: Team connections

The Buffalo Bills will host Dallas Cowboys for a matchup on Sunday at 4:25 p.m.

It’s a brand new NFL weekend with plenty on the line for both teams. But for some on the Bills (7-6) and Cowboys (10-3) there is a bit more at stake than others.

That’s because multiple players or coaches for both sides are going to be playing against their former teams. That can create a little bit of extra motivation for them heading into Sunday… as expected.

With that, here’s a quick list of connections the two teams have with one another ahead of the upcoming matchup at Highmark Stadium:

The Bills don’t often splash into the offensive line-free agency pool under the watch of general manager Brandon Beane. In fact, it’s not like McGovern was a cannonball. But spending on him this past offseason, after McGovern started his NFL career with the Cowboys, has paid off.

You know Kyron Brown, right?

He’s a practice squad cornerback who has not been called up to the Bills’ roster once yet this season and probably won’t be with Kaiir Elam coming off of injured reserve soon…. but Brown did play in 23 special teams snaps with the Cowboys in 2021. Never forget.

Speaking of little known cornerbacks… just kidding.

Gilmore was the Bills’ first-round pick in 2012 and after his rookie contract ended, he had little intent to stay with the team. It was pretty obvious at the time but it all worked out for the best on both sides.

After he departed, Buffalo selected cornerback Tre’Davious White that same offseason with their first-round pick. They did so by trading back and eventually used some of that draft capital to take quarterback Josh Allen and linebacker Tremaine Edmunds in the ensuing first round of the next NFL draft.

Gilmore went on to win a Super Bowl and likely have a Hall of Fame career.

It’s Stefon Diggs’ brother, Trevon, who won’t be playing. He’s on injured reserve.
