The question has surely been on many folks minds in the last few weeks. Despite signing Tyrod Taylor to a massive contract extension before the start of the season, the Buffalo Bills added a potential out into the deal that could allow them to part ways with Taylor before the big money kicks in during the 2017 season.

Such a move would be an extremely risky one for the team considering the success Taylor has had at times in Buffalo. A dual-threat quarterback, Taylor just hasn’t had the season many thought he would this season. However, part of his problems have likely come from the abysmal talent the team has had at wide receiver this season with both Sammy Watkins and Robert Woods suffering nasty injuries.

Of course, this discussion will likely be rendered mute if the Bills continue to win games and make the playoffs. However, should they fail to do so and ownership makes a move at both head coach and GM, it’s not unlikely that a new regime will want to select their own leading man. That likely pool of selections, the NFL Draft and it’s vast majority of quarterbacks.

Possibly reaching in the first round, it is now not only possible but likely that the Bills could select either Miami’s Brad Kaaya or Clemson’s Deshaun Watson. Heck, both could even be potential picks in the second round depending on the outlook of the teams in front of them. Both QB’s would present options and reasons to play them but would also present some risk for the team.

Once again though, the decision making on such a move is coming to a head very soon. The team must decide whether they want to cut Tyrod Taylor before the NFL Draft, not after. If they wait to long, they risk having their hand forced. This is not the start such a new regime would probably want.

Depending on your outlook of this team, you may or may not have a good feeling about Tyrod Taylor. For me, It’s a catch 22 situation. Sure, there are better QB’s out there. However, where are we going to find them and do you want to risk losing a quarterback with some talent for one that has none?
