Big Central Football Player of the Week: A.L. Johnson's Robert Gallagher wins Week 3 award
Robert Gallagher is sort of a triple threat in the triple option.
The junior quarterback can quickly read defenses and then decide on a run or pass play as needed.
“To be a triple option quarterback, you got to me versatile,” ALJ coach Anthony DelConte said. “We have a run the rock mentality. We want to grind it out. We want to dictate the game offensively. Robbie has all the characteristics of being a dominant triple option quarterback. He’s very good at reading it. Carries and manages the game very well and he could throw the ball very well for us when we need him to. He’s just an overall good kid. He works his butt off. He’s a competitor. He wants to win.”

The hot Crusaders (2-1) have won two straight after Thursday’s 35-11 win over Metuchen. Gallagher again had a big game with a team-high 126 rushing yards and scored on a 61-yard run and threw a 32-yard touchdown pass.
Gallagher started as a sophomore and has only gotten better in Year 2.
“As a junior in his second year at the helm, he’s stepped up even more and become even a better leader,” DelConte said. “The game kind of slowed down for him and it made everything a lot easier. …
“I’m really proud of Rob in the way that he’s continued to grow and develop as a player. As a leader and just overall buying in and commitment to the Crusader football program. It really means a lot to me because this program means a lot to me and it’s great to have somebody like him who feels the same way about it and wants to win not only for our program and himself, but he wants to win for Crusader Nation.”
