Berlin Brothersvalley trounces Lancaster Country Day, punches ticket to PIAA 1A semifinals

MCCONNELLSBURG — Berlin Brothersvalley senior Pace Prosser racked up 27 of his game-high 35 points in the first half of Friday's PIAA Class 1A quarterfinal against Lancaster Country Day, as the Mountaineers rolled to a 75-48 victory.

"It was nice we got this game a little closer to home, a lot of Berlin fans. It was pretty much a Berlin-packed gym," said Pace Prosser. "We get going, we make that first shot, we just feed off their energy."

It was a much different feel to the start of the game in comparison to Tuesday's second-round contest. The Mountaineers dictated the game and never trailed.

"I thought after Tuesday, we would come out pretty locked in and ready to go," Berlin coach Tanner Prosser said. "Even with that, they hung right with us there in the first quarter. They closed the quarter well. I thought our intensity was really good. We weren't great for 32 minutes but we're doing some really good things. To be still playing this time of year, you've got to have a good basketball team that is playing well at the right time."

Berlin (27-2) went on a 16-3 run in the second to take a commanding 32-12 advantage. The District 5 champs held a 42-22 lead at the break.

Lancaster Country Day (14-10), the District 3 No. 5 seed, was led by sophomore Jordan Ashby's 22 points.

Berlin met District 3 champion Linville Hill, which defeated Freeland MMI 65-29, for the second year in a row in the semifinals at 7 p.m. on Monday night at Shippensburg High School. The Mountaineers captured a 63-45 victory last season.

"They're significantly better than last year. I mean, significantly better," Coach Prosser said. "They have more scoring. The guys they replaced, they replaced with good athletes that are scorers.

"We're going to have our hands full. We're going to have to play really, really well and that's what I told our guys. We're going to have to be at our best if we want another crack on the big floor (Hershey)."

Pace Prosser and his teammates are excited for the challenge ahead.

"It's going to be a great basketball game to play in," he said. "It's going to be a great atmosphere. I know they're going to bring a lot of people. We're going to bring a lot of people. It's the type of games you want to play when you're a little kid, thinking about getting there (Hershey). I'm really excited for it, and it's going to be tough."
