Area track and field athletes compete at Carthage Invitational
Mar. 28—CARTHAGE, Mo. — Mother Nature provided perfect conditions for a full slate of events as the 40th annual Carthage Invitational track and field meet kicked off Thursday with 13 area schools.
Webb City's Chase Stilley logged the first win of the day when she captured first place in the girls high jump with a leap of 1.52 meters. Three other athletes cleared 1.52 meters, too, but Stilley did so in fewer attempts for the win. Also jumping 1.52 meters were Marshfield's Kailan Sarkissian and Grace Kimrey, and McDonald County's Savannah Lieb.
In the boys long jump, Lamar senior Chase Quarry got the win with a leap of 6.6 meters, besting Springfield Central's Dalvin Adams (6.5 meters). Carl Junction's Ryder Pyles was third with a 6.46 meter effort.
Marshfield's Abigail McBride won the girl's triple jump with a 10.85-meter leap. Nevada's Lanie Jackson was runner-up (10.17 meters) and McDonald County's Carlie Martin was third (10.14 meters).
Adyson Clark of Marshfield won the girls discus with a 33.17-meter toss. Carthage's Chasity Straw was second (31.77 meters) and Lamar's Audra Lloyd was third (31.73 meters).
In the boys shot put, Lamar's Trace Wollridge was the victor with a 16.14-meter effort. Joplin's Dontrell Holt was second (15.22 meters) and Carl Junction's Gavin Beachner was third (15.19 meters).
Webb City's Tucker Liberatore took first in the boys javelin with a throw of 50.63 meters. Mount Vernon's Hunter Dawson was runner-up (48.88 meters) and Carl Junction's Aidan Beachner was third (47.92 meters).
The Webb City girls 4x800 meter relay team (Emma Golubski, Aspen White, Brooke Hedger and Emily Countryman) took first place with a time of 10:27.31. Springfield Central (Alexandria Li, Sophia Brown, Annalise Freeman and Victoria Li) finished second (10:35.39). Carthage (Maggie Boyd, Jenna Calhoun, Grace Brown and Evelynn Carrol) finished third with a 10:35.45 time.
Webb City also came out on top in the boys 4x800 meters. Dakota Grove, Noah Lankard, Mason Hedger and Evan Stevens combined for a winning time of 8:13.4. Lamar (Cameron Bailey, David Dunham, Ryder Friend and Pierce Heins) finished second (8:42.5). Willard (Barrett Jarvis, Kendrik Troutt, Parker McCreary and Nathaniel Sprinkel) finished third (8:48.6).
Willard's Madison Davis won the girls 100-meter hurdles with a time of 15.4 seconds; Neosho's Jazmyn Washington posted a 16.64 time for second place and Monett's Jenna Heald was third with a time of 17.28.
Willard captured the top two spots in the boys 110-meter hurdles. Hayden Hall (15.85) took first and teammate William Ndiba was runner-up (16.47). Joplin's Avarus Kuhn Woffird was close behind with a time of 16.48 for third place.
Carl Junction sprinter Sydney Ward won the girls 100-meter dash (12.26.) Willard's Elise Murray (12.61) was second, and Joplin's Brylee Strickland (12.66) was third.
In the boys 100 meters, Lamar's Ian Ngugi was the winner with a time of 11.46. Willard's Landen Johnson (11.55) was second and Joplin's Davin Thomas (11.57) was third.
Webb City claimed three of the top four spots in the boys pole vault. Jadon Brisco won the event with a 3.95 meter vault. Marshfield's Carson Rockwood (3.8 meters) was second with fewer attempts at 3.8 meters than WCHS's Luke Gayman (third place) and John Makowski (fourth place.)
