Alex Bregman blasts Astros early game times: 'Does Tiger Woods tee off at 8 a.m.?'

You might have noticed that in October, the defending champion Houston Astros have been turned into the opening act for the Boston Red Sox and New York Yankees. You know who else has noticed? Astros star and MVP candidate Alex Bregman.

After the Astros completed their sweep of the Cleveland Indians on Monday, Bregman took aim at the schedule-makers in MLB who didn’t put the Astros in primetime games. He had seemingly finished up an interview with MLB Network before he thought of something else wanted to say. He came back to the mic to compare his team to Tiger Woods and Floyd Mayweather.

Basically, he thinks the Astros should be MLB’s big draw:

Here’s the full quote:

“Does Tiger Woods tee off at 8 a.m. when he’s going to win a Masters? Does Floyd Mayweather fight the first fight of the night? No, he’s the main event, right? So the ‘Stros need to playing on primetime television, 7 p.m. So we’re looking forward to playing primetime television in the ALCS.”

If it weren’t already clear, Bregman does not lack confidence. He’s among the best young players in the game and he knows it. He’s tuned into delivering great quotes, creating viral moments and, thus far, has been able to back up everything he says.

And while all that is true, MLB would still make the same call for the Astros to play second fiddle to the Yankees and Red Sox 100 times out of 100. It’s the biggest rivalry in the game, and one of the most famous in sports, so the decision makes complete sense.

Still, that won’t stop Bregman from delivering mic-drop quotes and carrying a chip on his shoulder into Houston’s eventual ALCS matchup with either the Yankees or Red Sox.
