Alabama high school spring football: Five teams to watch in the area
With the spring sports season coming to an end, Alabama high school football begins with spring practices.
This month several River Region teams will conduct spring games to kick off the 2024 season. Here is a list of the top five Montgomery-area teams you can catch in action this spring.
Carver
After finally merging with Sidney Lanier, Carver High School will be playing in Class 7A. Under new coach Bobby Carr, the new era of Wolverine football begins this month.
Spring Practices: May 6-15 Spring Game: May 16, Hornet Stadium
Montgomery Catholic
Since 2021 the Knights has won five region titles, lost two games and claimed the spot as the No. 1 defense in the state. After winning the Class 4A state championship last season, the Knights move up to Class 5A and prepare for a highly touted schedule.
Spring Practices: May 6-16 Spring Game: May 17 vs. Beauregard at Huntingdon College
Pike Road
The Patriots were one game away from playing in the Class 6A state championship game last season. With several returning players on the 2024 roster, the Patriots has huge expectations for the fall season. They began spring practices April 30 and will continue throughout the month of May.
Spring Practices: 3:30-5:15 p.m., May 7-16
Park Crossing
Park Crossing will host its first team scrimmage Saturday, May 4 from 10 a.m.-12 p.m. Spring Practices will be May 6-10 and the spring game will be May 11 against Booker T. Washington at Troy. Kickoff scheduled for 7 p.m.
Percy Julian
After the hire of new head football coach Kenneth White, Percy Julian will have a tougher schedule after being reclassified into Class 6A region 2. Spring Practice will continue May 5-17. Its spring game is scheduled for May 19 against Park Crossing at Capitol Heights. Kickoff is 7 p.m.
