Aggie Softball team run rules Houston in the 6th inning for 12 win of the season.

Much like the men’s baseball team on Tuesday night, the women’s team started blazing hot. In the first inning, they put up four runs to get a jump on run-ruling the Houston Cougars. A walk-off home run in the bottom of the 6th would make the final score 9-1 sending everyone home early.

Much of the opening inning consisted of walks and stolen bases for the 25th-ranked Texas A&M Aggies (12-4). Koko Wooley put on her best Ricky Henderson impression tonight with her base running. After being walked, Wooley would steal second base, then she would take advantage of Houston’s lack of awareness to steal third while the ball was being tossed back to the pitcher.

Houston would walk the second batter, Star Ferguson, putting runners at the corners. Yes, you guessed it, Ferguson would steal second base while Wooley stole home for the first score of the game. A wild pitch saw Ferguson move to third and Trinity Cannon would safely get to first base via a walk. Are you starting to sense the pattern? Say it with me,…Cannon steals second, unfortunately, Ferguson would get thrown out at home. Getting back on track another walk sends Riley Valentine to first, and the final three runs would come off the end of Morgan Smith’s bat. A three-run home run over the left field fence at Davis Diamond gave Texas A&M a 4-0 lead after the first inning.

At the bottom of the third Wooley drove home two runs with two RBI triples leaving her all alone on third base, but a wild pitch allowed her to make it home extending the Aggies lead 7-0.  Houston and Texas A&M would trade runs in the fifth inning making it 8-1.

Emiley Kennedy pitched a strong 5 innings with 3 strikeouts and only one run allowed. Emily Leavitt would close out the top of the sixth with a strikeout and no runs allowed. Grace Uribe up to this point of the season only had a handful of at-bats but was called in to pinch hit. She made no waste of the appearance at the plate smacking a walk-off home run over the left field wall ending the game 9-1.

Head coach Trisha Ford did a great job getting her team to stay focused in their first game back in College Station after a long road stretch against a solid Houston team. They will be in action again this weekend at the Ode to Joy Invitational where they face off against Sam Houston and the 19th-ranked Baylor Bears.
