24 Bay County athletes shine at district track and field meets to qualify for regionals

Bay County athletes competed in district track and field meets last week at Tommy Oliver Stadium and at Chiles High School in Tallahassee.

Many local athletes automatically qualified for regional meets with their performances, and others qualified by placing at sanctioned meets during the regular season. Regional meets occur at the University of North Florida on May 7-8.

Below are the top performers from the district meets:

Shaniyah Carlos, Mosley

Carlos broke her own school record again in the 100-meter dash, this time clocking 12.30 seconds, which was good enough for a third-place finish. Carlos also earned a silver medal in the 200 (25.52).

Tyler Murzyn, North Bay Haven

The sophomore won gold in the discus throw (125 feet, 3 inches) and sixth in the javelin throw (135-4).

Jevon Hamilton, Rutherford

The senior took home gold in the long jump (22-4.25), and silver in 100 (10.94) and 200 (22.52).

Margaret Bartlow, North Bay Haven

Bartlow defended her long-distance district titles, winning gold in the 1,600 (5:09.64) and 3,200 (10:56.66).

Peyton Gay, Bozeman

Gay took gold in the javelin throw (173-6).

Kyla Faint and Mary Pickford, North Bay Haven

The duo finished top-3 in the 800, with Faint taking gold (2:35.44) and Pickford winning bronze (2:39.09). Pickford also took bronze in the 1,600 (5:50.33).

Lauren Louge, Mosley

Louge took home a pair of bronze medals, finishing third in the 1,600 (6:15.94) and 3,200 (14:05.68) races.

Caleb Toombs, Bay

The junior earned two bronze medals in the 100 (10.98) and 4x100 relay (44.35).

Lundon Faile, Bay

Faile won silver in the 1,600 (4:48.75), 3,200 (10:51.21) and bronze in the 800 (2:07.85).

Charles Baldwin, Daniel Kling and Michael Faint, North Bay Haven

Baldwin led the way in the 800, winning gold (2:06.21), Kling took silver (2:07.69) and Faint earned fourth place (2:08.23). Faint, Baldwin, Kling and Charlie Holmes combined to take gold in the 4x800 relay.

Olivia Scribner, Arnold

Scribner took home third in the pole vault (2.85 meters).

Nicolas Waddell, Mosley

Waddell finished in the top 10 in the long-distance runs, earning fourth in the 1,600 (4:37.82) and sixth in the 3,200 (10:14.56).

Kaycee McLellan, Lilly Cobb and Laela Kern, Arnold

The Marlins trio took home gold (McLellan, 103-2), silver (Cobb, 102-3) and bronze (Kern, 96-10) in the javelin.

Jomy Cepero Vasallo, Mosley

The junior took home a bronze in the high jump (4-11.75) and a pair of fourth-place finishes in the pole vault (8-10.25) and 100m hurdles (16.55).

Wesley Tilghman and James McMillan, Mosley

The Dolphins duo took the top two spots in the boys javelin, Tilghman (154-2) edged out McMillan (142-6) for gold.

Josiah Dunlap, Bay

The hurdle specialist won bronze in the 400 hurdles (1:00.94), fourth in the 110 hurdles (15.43) and fifth in the 4x400 (3:38.88).

Kamari Saunders, Bay

Saunders won silver in the triple jump (40-10.25) and sixth in the high jump (5-8).

Shakirah Edwards, Rutherford

Edwards won gold in the girls high jump (5-5.75).
