2023 Wells Fargo Championship odds, course history and picks to win

The PGA Tour is back in Charlotte, North Carolina, for the Wells Fargo Championship at Quail Hollow Club. The 2022 edition was forced to TPC Potomac at Avenel Farm due to the staging of the Presidents Cup at QHC later in the year.

Max Homa took home the trophy in Maryland last season, however, Rory McIlroy is the latest winner at Quail Hollow.

McIlroy is making is first start on Tour since missing the weekend at Augusta National nearly a month ago.

World Nos. 1 and 2, Scottie Scheffler and Jon Rahm, are taking the week off. Every player is allowed to miss one designated event this season, and they’ve decided to skip the North Carolina stop.

This tournament may be renamed the “Rory McIlroy Invitational” by the time he retires. In 10 starts at this event when it has been held at Quail Hollow, McIlroy has nine top 25s, eight top 10s and three wins.

In 2021, McIlroy missed the cut at the Masters and went on to win the Wells Fargo in his very next start.

Like McIlroy, Jason Day hasn’t played since the Masters. His week in Georgia started off great but ended with a final-round 80. Before a T-39 finish at the year’s first major, Day rattled off 10 straight top-20 performances, including six top 10s.

Before missing the cut at Quail Hollow in 2021, the Aussie finished 24th in 2019 and won in 2018.

Rickie Fowler (+3500)

Rickie Fowler has loved him some Quail Hollow over the last several years. Before a missed cut in 2021, Fowler finished fourth in 2019, 21st in 2018 and fourth in 2016. At the 2017 PGA Championship staged in Charlotte, he finished fifth. Fowler won the event in 2012.

The 34-year-old has his game back, as he has finished inside the top 15 in three straight stroke-play starts.

Hovland only has one start at Quail Hollow, a third-place finish in 2021.

A tough Saturday at the RBC Heritage derailed his great start, and he eventually tied for 59th. In his three previous stroke-play starts before Harbour Town, Hovland finished T-7, T-3 and T-10.
