2023 MHSAA Softball Championships: Top performers in each title game

The Mississippi High School Activities Association softball championships took place this week at the Southern Miss Softball Complex in Hattiesburg. Here are the top performers from each championship series.

Tuesday

Hallie Burns, Booneville: The Ole Miss signee had a complete game, allowing only three hits and recording 10 strikeouts in Booneville's 6-1 victory over West Marion for a 1-0 lead in the Class 3A championship series. The senior also went 1-of-2 at the plate with a walk.

Olivia Garrett, Booneville: The sophomore led the way for the Blue Devils with a two-run double in the first inning.

Lucy Cochran, East Union: The 2023 Miss Softball award winner for Class 2A allowed five hits and one earned run while getting 10 strikeouts in a 3-1 victory over Loyd Star. East Union can clinch the state title with a victory over the Hornets.

Neelie Stahl, Hamilton: Stahl was the hero in Hamilton's 5-4 victory over Sebastopol in Game 1 of the Class 1A series. The freshman finished 2-for-2 with three RBIs but nothing was bigger than her walk-off single to left field.

Kate Clements, North Pike: Clements helped give North Pike a 2-0 lead in the first inning with a two-run triple in Game 1 of the Class 4A championship series against West Lauderdale.

Carsyn Mott, West Lauderdale: Mott went 2-for-4 with three RBIs, including a two-run home run in the first inning, as West Lauderdale won 6-2 and took a 1-0 series lead over North Pike in the Class 4A championship series.

Breelyn Cain, West Lauderdale: Cain had a complete game with two earned runs and six strikeouts.

MAIS CLASS 6A BASEBALL CHAMPIONSHIP LSU commitment Konnor Griffin, Graham Busbea move Jackson Prep one win from MAIS baseball title

Wednesday

Peyton Collin, George County: Collins had a complete game and allowed two hits with six strikeouts in George County's 5-0 victory over Saltillo in Game 1 of the Class 5A series.

Irina Sanford, George County: The senior went 2-of-4 with a double and three RBIs to lead George County.

Abigail Gill, Hamilton: The junior went 1-of-3 with a triple and two RBIs to help Hamilton sweep Sebastopol in the Class 1A championship series.

Trinity Jones, Hamilton: The eight grader held Sebastopol to one hit with three strikeouts in Hamilton's 9-2 victory to claim the Class 1A title. Jones also went 2-of-4 with a home run and three RBIs.

Tavia Archie, Northwest Rankin: The junior clinched a 6-5 victory over South Panola with a RBI single in the eight inning of the Class 6A championship series.

Nia Fondren, South Panola: Fondren went 3-of-3 with a home run and three RBIs in South Panola's 6-5 loss to Northwest Rankin in Game 1.

MHSAA CLASS 3A SOFTBALL Ole Miss signee Hallie Burns delivers Booneville softball to third consecutive MHSAA state title

Thursday

Maddix Lambert, Booneville: The eight grader went 1-of-3 with two RBIs as the Blue Devils won their third consecutive MHSAA Class 3A championship.

Hallie Burns, Booneville: The Ole Miss signee allowed four hits in six innings along with 11 strikeouts in Booneville's 7-4 victory over West Marion.

Sidnee Beech, George County: The junior went 4-for-for in Game 1 and delivered with the game-winning RBI in Thursday's 2-1 victory over Saltillo to win the Class 5A title.

Jolie Hays, Northwest Rankin: The junior held South Panola to five hits and one earned run in Northwest Rankin's 4-2 championship clinching victory.

Mabry Eason, West Lauderdale: The sophomore had a no-hitter with five strikeouts along with a home run and four RBIs in West Lauderdale's Class 4A championship clinching 11-0 victory over North Pike.

Breelyn Cain, West Lauderdale: The Miss Softball award winner for Class 4A went 2-of-2 with two RBIs and two runs in Game 2 against North Pike.

Friday

Lucy Cochran, East Union: The eight grader had three hits, including two doubles and an RBI in East Union's 3-1 championship clinching victory over Loyd Star. She also had five strikeouts.
