2023 Football Hall of Fame Game will feature New York Jets, Cleveland Browns

The New York Jets will take on the Cleveland Browns in the annual Hall of Fame game to kick off the 2023 preseason. The Pro Football Hall of Fame made the announcement Tuesday and posted a sand art video revealing the helmets of the two participating teams.

The Hall of Fame game will be played at 8 p.m. ET on Aug. 3 at Tom Benson Hall of Fame Stadium in Canton, Ohio. It is the first time in 24 years that either of the teams have played in the first preseason game of the year. The Browns' last appearance was in 1999 as their reintroduction to the league, while the Jets haven't been in the game since their second appearance in 1992.

The game will coincide with the enshrinement of three players representing the Jets and Browns. Joe Klecko was a member of the New York Sack Exchange in the late 1970s through the 1980s. He played several positions along the defensive line and had 20.5 sacks in 1981. Darrelle Revis also played for the Jets – from 2007-2012. The seven-time Pro Bowler won a Super Bowl ring in his lone season with the New England Patriots. Joe Thomas was a reliable-as-they-come offensive tackle for the Browns for a decade.

The Jets will be using the preseason to analyze their quarterback situation as questions swirl around Zach Wilson and Derek Carr has visited the team. New York won both the Offensive and Defensive Rookie of the Year awards with Garrett Wilson and Sauce Gardner at NFL Honors during Super Bowl week.

The Browns will be in their first full season with Deshaun Watson at quarterback and will be looking for more support for him on the offense as well as additions to the defense to come alongside Pro Bowl defensive end Myles Garrett.
