Shutdown Corner - NFL

Maybe this was presumptuous and pessimistic of me, but when I first saw the headline about Lawrence Taylor being arrested, I kind of assumed it was for some horrible, drug-related crime. Something that would make me read the article and say, "Aw, come on, Lawrence," and then shake my head and say a little prayer for humanity.

Not necessary, as it turns out. Taylor was charged with leaving the scene of an accident, and guess what? He was completely sober! Cops didn't even feel the need to perform a sobriety test. L.T. was cooperative, coherent and very very sane.

I'm not saying the incident was nothing. It's still a level or two above jaywalking. According to TMZ, police believe that Taylor's car hit another car, and then hit a guard rail (Taylor told investigators only that he'd hit a guard rail), and Taylor proceeded to drive several miles away from the scene, sans front tire. Police found him several miles away, standing in front of his three-tired car.

TMZ says that no one was injured. That, combined with Taylor's sobriety, (given his history), leads me to put this one in the category of "good news."

Lawrence Taylor will never be completly sober, much less sane. He is and always will be an addict.

He MIGHT have been sober, although it's doubtful...BUT, LT has never been sane. I imagine there's more to this than just a newspaper blurb, but then again, who cares?

LT, awesome dominant player in the 80's, but unfortunately has had problems off the field. Maybe its a NY thing(can't stand the yankees)? You remember Darfyl Strawberry(Mets)? Why these people blow it is beyond me, perhaps its simply boredom?

If you call LT awesome what you would call a real linbacker like Sam Huff or some of the games best? LT was a media darling. The media gushed over anything he did and treated it like some super human accomplishment. Most who played against him considered him a cry baby.

This article is extremely disappointing. Taylor hasn't been in trouble for drug use in over 10 years. There was no reason for you to drag that out other than to further defame a man who has admitted his mistakes a moved on. What gives you the right? Are you too narrow minded to move on past the 90's?
The posts declaring that it is "doubtful" he was sober and will never be are equally baseless and out of line. Why they are not deleted is beyond me.
