Yankees' Rodriguez hits record 24th grand slam

NEW YORK -- New York Yankees third baseman Alex Rodriguez hit his 24th career grand slam Friday night, breaking a tie with Lou Gehrig for the most in baseball history.

With the bases loaded and two outs in the seventh, Rodriguez ripped a 2-1 fastball from Giants reliever George Kontos into the right field seats for his seventh home run of the season.

Rodriguez had been in a 1-for-25 slump prior to the homer. Rodriguez has 654 career homers and is now six home runs shy of tying Willie Mays (660) on baseball's all-time list.
