Tony Romo is everything the Broncos need

The Denver Broncos aren’t much different than the team that won Super Bowl 50. They’re being carried by an elite defense, but the quarterback play has been mediocre at best. Fans can only imagine how much scarier they would be if the play from the passer was good or great.

Well, it’s possible they could look at adding a perennial Pro Bowler to the squad next season, according to NFL.com’s Ian Rapoport:

There’s no doubt the Cowboys will want to trade Romo in the offseason. This is now Dak Prescott’s team and Dallas can’t keep a valuable backup when they can get a nice draft pick for him.

Romo definitely would come with a risk if the Broncos took him. He will be 37 in the offseason, coming off of significant injuries in the past two seasons. When the 2017 season rolls around, it will have been three years since he last played a full season.

But the Broncos need to take a chance on Romo. He’s a solid veteran quarterback. He is simply a better quarterback than Trevor Siemian. Romo is not going to take away the future from Paxton Lynch; he’s simply going to help Lynch be more prepared when it’s his time.

And the Broncos offensive line is a mess. Romo is excellent in the pocket and has remarkable abilities to evade sacks and throw downfield.

This is far too early. For all we know, Romo wins the starting job in Dallas and Siemian becomes the NFL’s leading passer. Anything is possible down the road. But right now, the Broncos should make sure Jerry Jones doesn’t talk to anyone else about a Romo trade when the offseason begins.
