Richmond 74, Hofstra 63 (OT)
Richmond scored seven of the first eight points registered in overtime and tallied a 74-63 comeback win over Hosftra on Tuesday from the Richmond Coliseum.
Guards Cedrick Lindsay and Kendall Anthony combined for more than half of Richmond's total output, with Lindsay scoring 26 points and Anthony notching 18. Anthony made a 3-pointer early in overtime to spark Richmond, which trailed by as many as 11 points in the second half.
Spiders forward Trey Davis added six points and nine rebounds. He also blocked a potential game-winning shot by Hofstra swingman Jamall Robinson at the end of regulation.
The loss spoiled a fantastic individual effort by Hofstra's senior swingman, Zeke Upshaw. A graduate transfer from Illinois State, Upshaw poured in 35 points, the highest individual scoring performance by a Pride player since Charles Jenkins also scored 35 against James Madison in January of 2011. Upshaw made nine shots from the floor, more than all of his Hofstra teammates combined.
Hofstra (1-3) lost despite never trailing in regulation. Forward Jordan Allen hauled down 11 rebounds, and post Stephen Nwaukoni amassed eight points and 10 boards. The Pride missed all seven field goals in overtime and committed 19 total turnovers.
Hofstra threatened to run away with the game midway through the second half, holding a 52-42 advantage before Richmound mounted a 9-0 run to get back into the contest. The Spiders capped their comeback with 42.4 seconds to go when senior forward Derrick Williams successfully converted a three-point play to tie the score at 58 and force overtime.
