Panthers re-sign former OL starter Hangartner

The Carolina Panthers signed free agent guard/center Geoff Hangartner, the team announced Tuesday. Backup offensive lineman Jeff Byers was placed on injured reserve with a foot injury.

Hangartner (6-foot-5 and 305 pounds) returns to the Panthers after starting 28 games for the team from 2011-12. He has released by the Panthers during training camp in August.

Hangartner is being brought in to help at right guard. Starter Chris Scott is day-to-day with a sprained knee suffered in the second quarter of Sunday's 34-10 victory over Atlanta.

Byers underwent season-ending Lisfranc surgery on his left foot on Monday.
