May Update for Xbox One Will Include New Sound Mixer
Microsoft recently revealed details of its forthcoming May Xbox One update. It will include a new sound mixer for snapped apps and the introduction of chat volume controls when using Kinect. Both options will appear under Settings. The mixer gives you the ability to control the volume of two apps running at once, and you can choose which one should be loudest. The chat volume controls work similarly, allowing you to adjust the volume while using Kinect for chatting.
Microsoft is planning to improve Kinect's speech recognition, and the May update includes a facility for them to collect your speech data. It is optional and will not be turned on by default. Gamers will need to access their "Privacy & Online Safety" options in Settings to turn it on.
"Being able to control your Xbox One with voice commands can be a magical moment, and we want to continue making this great for all Xbox One owners worldwide. The more voice samples we have to input into our algorithms, the better and more responsive Xbox One can be to our fans," explained Major Nelson.
In other news, during a recent interview with CNN, Xbox exec Phil Spencer announced plans to bring more exclusive games to the console, some of which will be on display at the upcoming E3 conference. "Exclusive games will continue to play a major role for Xbox in the new console generation, just as they have in previous generations," said Spencer. "I'm a true believer in our exclusive platform features like Kinect, SmartGlass, and the Cloud, but games have always been the bedrock of our consoles at Xbox."
