Giant FB Will Tukufau returns to Seattle
Longtime readers of cover32 Seahawks know that we are a big fans of fullbacks. Last season Derrick Coleman played 98 reps in 14 games. When he was lost to legal troubles, the enormous Will Tukuafu stepped in and took over.
Now, the Seahawks are bringing him back for another go. The team officially signed Tukuafu before practice on Sunday morning, per Bob Condotta at the Seattle Times.
Seattle’s commitment to that old-school position is a hallmark of an organization that knows what it takes to win playoff games: a dynamic power running attack. At 6’4″ and 272 pounds, Will Tukuafu’s size makes him valuable as a lead blocker. He’s basically a glorified pull-guard who will be setting up holes for Thomas Rawls and Christine Michael when Seattle lines up in the I-formation. He can also be valuable in (very) short-yardage situations.
#Fullbackdives!
Tukuafu finished last season with 215 snaps. He gained only eight yards from scrimmage but scored two touchdowns, including one that may have been our favorite score of the season. As a misdirection option, it’s hard to do better than Tukuafu. Watch Arizona bite on this play fake:

Beautiful stuff.

Tukuafu was brought in prior to the 2014 season after he’d been languishing on the bench for the San Francisco 49ers. His only competition may come in the form of rookie Washington product Tani Tupou.
For now, we’re expecting Tukuafu to be the team’s FB1 come Week 1 against the Miami Dolphins.
