Giancarlo Stanton makes fan with 'overrated' chant look foolish

Giancarlo Stanton has struggled at the plate through long stretches this season, but he had impeccable timing Tuesday night when a heckler in the crowd at Citi Field cupped his hands over his mouth and yelled “overrated” with Stanton at bat.

The Miami Marlins slugger immediately launched the next pitch over the wall for a three-run home run and his third, fourth and fifth RBIs in Miami’s 5-2 win.

The heckler appeared to be a Mets fan and his fellow Mets supporters immediately turned the tables on him telling him to “leave, leave, leave.”

This is all about timing, both good and bad. Obviously the heckler in question had just pitiful timing while Stanton’s couldn’t have been better. But the fan sitting directly behind the heckler shooting video of the entire event might have had the best timing of all. What are the chances of getting that?

Stanton is only hitting .231 going into Thursday’s games and he has already struck out 103 times this season, which is well on pace for a career high. But there is plenty of time to turn things around and hitting four home runs the past two nights seems like a great start.
