Elsie Mahe, the three-year-old daughter of BYU running backs coach Reno Mahe, was hospitalized after an accident on Tuesday morning.

According to the Salt Lake Tribune, Elsie was “found hanging by some mini-blinds” and was “fighting for her life” in the hospital as of Tuesday evening. Elsie was found by a friend and her mother, former BYU volleyball player Sunny Tonga Mahe, performed CPR. A family friend told the Tribune Elsie was sedated and breathing with help from a respirator.

From the Tribune:

Elsie Mahe, one of the couple’s seven children, was found hanging by some mini-blinds by a 4-year-old friend who immediately summoned Sunny Mahe. The mother performed CPR and the child was subsequently life-flighted to the Salt Lake City hospital from the family’s Lehi home, according to Jeremy Roberts, a family friend.

“Everything that can possibly be done for the little girl from a medical standpoint is being done,” Roberts said. “She has the best medical care in the world right now.”

Elsie Mahe was sedated and breathing with the help of a respirator Tuesday night and will remain that way for more than 24 hours to allow her brain and body to rest, Roberts said.

Mahe joined the BYU staff when Kalani Sitake was hired following the departure of Bronco Mendenhall to Virginia. Mahe was a running back and wide receiver for the Cougars and spent five seasons in the NFL with the Philadelphia Eagles, where he played running back and was a special teams standout, mainly as a punt returner.
