Crean apologizes for postgame exchange
Indiana coach Tom Crean told reporters during a conference call on Monday that he apologized to Michigan assistant Jeff Meyer for their heated exchange after the Hoosiers beat the Wolverines on Sunday.
Crean said he had a "professional misunderstanding" with Meyer after the game.
"On the way to the plane, I talked to him on the telephone," Crean said. "We discussed a couple of things and I apologized. In retrospect, I wish I had never addressed anything after the heat of battle in a game, but I did and we move on. End of story."
Moments after Indiana edged Michigan 72-71 to win the regular season Big Ten title, Crean had to be restrained during his postgame exchange with Meyer, who was an Indiana assistant under former coach Kelvin Sampson from 2006-08.
"You know what you did," Crean was heard saying on a video of the incident with Meyer. "You helped wreck our program."
Crean was hired in 2008 after NCAA sanctions that stemmed from violations that occurred under Sampson.
Meyer, who recruits the state of Indiana for the Wolverines, was not held responsible by the NCAA for any major violations while at Indiana.
Michigan coach John Beilein said he did not see the confrontation between Crean and Meyer.
After struggling for three seasons, Indiana won 27 games last season under Crean and is 26-5 this season.
