Auburn makes top five in major polls

Auburn moved into the top five of both major polls, which were released Sunday.

The Tigers climbed two spots to No. 4 in the Associated Press top 25 media poll and up two places to No. 5 in the USA Today coaches poll.

Auburn (10-1) takes on No. 1 Alabama next Saturday, setting up just the second top-five matchup in the history of the Iron Bowl. The last time Alabama played Auburn when both teams ranked in the top five was in 1971. The winner claims the SEC West title.

The Crimson Tide (11-0) received 56 first-place votes in the AP poll and also 56 votes in the coaches poll. No. 2 Florida State (11-0) picked up the remaining votes in both polls: four by the AP media panel and six by the coaches.

Ohio State (11-0) moved up a spot to No. 3 in the AP and remained in that place in the coaches poll. Missouri (10-1) climbed two places to round out the AP top five. The coaches poll has Clemson (10-1) moving up two spots to No. 4.

Baylor (9-1) dropped from third to No. 9 by AP and from fourth to No. 8 by the coaches after getting routed 49-17 by Oklahoma State (10-1), which moved up to No. 7 in both polls.

Oregon (9-2) fell to No. 12 in both polls after taking a 42-16 loss against unranked Arizona.
