Kerr's high 5, low 5

Each week during the regular season, I will rank the five best teams – and the five worst teams – in the NBA.

To view my rankings from the previous week, click here.

Team records are through Feb. 14.

THE HIGH FIVE

San Antonio
San Antonio

1.San Antonio Spurs (40-12) – Despite their loss in Miami on Sunday, the Spurs still ended the day with a share of the NBA's best record. The only question for San Antonio is whether it will get bored. Thirty more games until the playoffs – here come the dog days.

Phoenix
Phoenix

2.Phoenix Suns (41-12) – The Suns are 29 games over .500 after Monday's win at home over Utah. Walter McCarty should give their thin bench a boost down the stretch.

Miami
Miami

3.Miami Heat (39-14) – The Heat have won nine of 10 and are playing their best ball of the season, according to coach Stan Van Gundy. The win over the Spurs was a big confidence booster for a team that hadn't had much success against the West.

Seattle
Seattle

4.Seattle SuperSonics (35-13) – An almost perfect week was tarnished by a home loss to Dallas on Sunday, but the Sonics have answered the critics who claimed their success wouldn't last. Nick Collison, Reggie Evans and Danny Fortson are the Sonics' version of the Redskins' old offensive line, "The Hogs." They're scrappy, mean and tough.

Dallas
Dallas

5.Dallas Mavericks (33-16) – The Mavericks are enjoying great play from Jason Terry. His game-winning three-point play beat the Kings in Sacramento on Friday. Meanwhile, Dirk Nowitzki is simply being Dirk.

THE LOW FIVE

New York
New York

26.New York Knicks (20-32) – The Knicks shot 61 percent against the Kings last week and lost despite having a seven-point lead with under a minute to play. New York is finding a way to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory.

Golden State
Golden State

27.Golden State Warriors (14-37) – The playoffs won't be the same this year without Derek Fisher. His nickname may as well have been "Mr. June."

Charlotte
Charlotte

28.Charlotte Bobcats (10-39) – The Bobcats have lost 18 of their last 20 games. When is the draft?

Atlanta
Atlanta

29.Atlanta Hawks (10-39) – The Hawks continue to rappel down the cliff of NBA futility.

New Orleans
New Orleans

30.New Orleans Hornets (11-41) – At least the Hornets have inched their way back to semi-respectability. They reached double digits in wins by beating Golden State last Friday.
