Machado reaches base four times in debut as Dodgers drop Brewers
Manny Machado went 2-for-3 with two walks in his team debut, and the Los Angeles Dodgers held on for a 6-4 win over the Milwaukee Brewers on Friday night at Miller Park.
Machado, who wore No. 8 and played shortstop, singled in the first inning, walked in the third and fifth and singled in the seventh. The Dodgers acquired the four-time All-Star on Wednesday for five prospects.
Enrique Hernandez clubbed a three-run homer for the Dodgers. Chris Taylor and Max Muncy drove in one run apiece as Los Angeles opened a 10-game road trip.
Christian Yelich went 3-for-5 with two doubles and three RBIs for Milwaukee, which has lost seven straight. Jesus Aguilar added his National League-leading 25th home run.
Dodgers starter Rich Hill (3-4) limited the Brewers to one run on five hits in six innings. The 38-year-old walked four and struck out nine, one shy of his season high.
Brewers reliever Taylor Williams (0-3) took the loss, allowing two runs in one inning. Williams replaced starter Wade Miley, who gave up one unearned run in six innings.
A passed ball by Brewers catcher Manny Pina allowed the Dodgers to grab a 1-0 lead in the third. Los Angeles loaded the bases with one out, and Taylor sprinted in from third base on Pina's miscue.
Milwaukee evened the score at 1 in the fifth. Yelich drove in Pina with a double to right field. Miley tried to score from first base on the hit, but Dodgers second baseman Logan Forsythe took the cutoff and threw him out at the plate.
The Dodgers scored twice in the seventh to go ahead for good. Taylor ripped a one-out single into left field to score Chase Utley, who reached base on a pinch-hit double. Two batters later, Muncy drove in Taylor with a double to right-center field.
Aguilar homered in the eighth to trim the deficit to one.
Hernandez made it 6-2 with a three-run shot, his 17th, off Brewers reliever Brandon Woodruff.
Yelich finished the scoring with a two-run triple in the bottom of the ninth before Dodgers reliever Kenley Jansen fanned Aguilar for his 28th save.
Before the game, Brewers reliever Josh Hader apologized to his teammates for a series of hateful tweets that surfaced during Tuesday's All-Star Game.
