Player Notes
Eduardo A. Encina of the Baltimore Sun reports that the Orioles are eyeing next weekend as the return date for Manny Machado (knee).

Advice: Machado will begin a rehab assignment with High-A Frederick on Friday and the O's are expecting him to only need a week's worth of rehab games if all goes well. That would make May 2 as the target date for the third baseman. The Orioles figure to ease Machado in initially with a handful of off days early on, but he's someone fantasy owners are going to want to put back in their lineup immediately.

Manny Machado (knee) will begin a rehab assignment with High-A Frederick on Friday.

Advice: Machado has been cleared for official game action after getting through a few extended spring training contests with no issues. He'll move up to Triple-A Norfolk on Monday and then go back to Double-A Bowie since it's closer to Baltimore. The young third baseman is on pace to rejoin the Orioles at the beginning of May.

Manny Machado (knee) reported nothing but normal soreness on Sunday and is expected to continue his rehab with seven innings in an extended spring game on Monday.

Advice: He'll then serve as the DH on Tuesday before possibly progressing to a minor league rehab assignment. He remains on track to rejoin the Orioles at some point in early May.

Manny Machado (knee) played five innings in an extended spring training game on Saturday without any issues.

Advice: He's expected to do so again on Sunday and if he continues to progress could soon be cleared for a minor league rehab assignment. Fantasy owners should be expecting a return to the O's lineup in early May.

Manny Machado (knee) will play five innings at third base in an extended spring training game Saturday.

Advice: Machado was cleared after doing some sliding on Friday with no issues. It will be the third baseman's first game action since last October's knee surgery. The Orioles have been careful not to make any hard and fast deadlines for Machado, but it's beginning to look like he should be ready to go pretty early on in May.

Manny Machado (knee) ran the bases again Thursday.

Advice: Machado ran the bases for the first time Wednesday, so it's a good sign that he was right back out there. The plan calls for him to slide for the first time Friday and play in an extended spring training game on Saturday. He's beginning to make encouraging progress.

Manny Machado (knee) ran the bases for the first time Wednesday with no problems.

Advice: Machado had been running sprints in the days prior, but Wednesday was the first day he ran the bases in his recovery from October knee surgery. He'll continue running the bases for the rest of the week. No indication was given as to when he'll be cleared to take part in extended spring training games, but it shouldn't be too long now.

Manny Machado (knee) ran sprints again Tuesday.

In addition to running six 90-foot sprints on Monday, Manny Machado (knee) took four at-bats in a simulated game.

Advice: The good news keeps pouring in for Machado, who is beginning to ramp things up in his rehab from knee surgery. He's expected to do sprints from 180 feet tomorrow and could possibly run the bases. Of course, that will be his most important test yet. If he can make it through without any issues, extending spring training games should come next.

Manny Machado (knee) is scheduled to run sprints from 180 feet on Tuesday.

Advice: Machado ran six 90-foot sprints on Monday and is ready to take the next step. There's a chance he could run the bases tomorrow and play in some extended spring training games by the end of the week. He would need about two or three extended spring training games before going out on an official minor league rehab assignment. He still has some hurdles to cross, but a return in the early part of May sounds feasible.
