Venus Williams and her purple hair played some good tennis at the U.S. Open on Monday

It might be the first day of the 2013 U.S. Open, but we've come to the point where an early round win for Venus Williams is news.

Oh, and that hair ... that's also an interesting choice.

Venus upset No. 12 Kirsten Flipkens on Monday at the U.S. Open, winning 6-1, 6-2 while rocking an assortment of strange looks. The purple hair might be the first thing you notice, but continue to look at some of the unconventional things that Williams had on while playing a professional sport.

The 33-year-old had surface piercings on her wrists, a bow tie ring on her left ring finger, and arguably the biggest ring I've ever seen on her left hand.

Still, with all of these additions Venus was able to advance to the second round at the U.S. Open for the seventh straight year.
